they had a go tonight at covering "the case" but came out with
"you could be fined"
then this
"The fact is, if you overstay your welcome in any private car park they are entitled to issue you a fine of up to £100"

Edit: complaint to BBC made.0 -
The right word in my view that conveys the message to one and all is "penalised" as "charged" is too weak.0

Good luck with that - when I complained about Watchdog using the word fine and their truly pathetic piece on PPCs they just fobbed me off and then refused to speak to me."The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis." - Dante Alighieri0 -
Good luck with that - when I complained about Watchdog using the word fine and their truly pathetic piece on PPCs they just fobbed me off and then refused to speak to me.In Vicki Butler-Henderson's report on private parking charges, she at one point said, "The fact is, if you overstay your welcome in any private car park they are entitled to issue you a fine of up to £100." This is a complete untruth, a LIE, and I am shocked that she said such an out-and-out fib without a flicker of irony. Maybe you, or she, could tell me where this "fact" comes from, who gives this "entitlement" to fine/charge motorists £100 for an infringement. To my knowledge, the ONLY thing that claims this is the BPA Code of Practice, which is not law, and has no official backing or endorsement. Why does not-one ever do any research, but simply pedals the propaganda and LIES put out by the likes of Patrick Troy as fact? It's one thing for him to LIE on camera (which he does all the time, he is only there to protect and promote his members, the private parking companies, so lying is second nature), but I don't expect it from your reporters.
I expect you to issue an apology on air for making claims that are simply not true, and have no factual basis in law*.
(*To be clear, the Parking Eye v Beavis case does NOT allow parking companies to impose £100 fines. For a start it is subject to appeal, so not case law. Nowhere mentions £100. And it relates only to very specific circumstances. It's pretty obvious that the claim does, in fact, come straight from the BPA themselves.)0
