Please can anyone help...
Ive been trying to register with my local GP for some weeks now and time is effectively running out for me to get my vaccinations & inoculatins for going to Malawi in October. Anyway finally, Ive managed to get clarity from the NHSdirect this morning about what I actually need, seeing as I havent been able to see a GP to be told etc.
Ive just done a quick google for the inoc costs and found utterly staggering costs-
We also need cholera and rabies. And I think I need hep A&B
Can anyone help, I have to get my rabies done tomorrow  I have no time whatsoever.
I expect Ill be shamelessly bumping this till i get an asnwer, sorry in advance

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Try the hospital for tropical diseases.
And I think the advice you have been given may be over-cautious (depending on which part of Malawi, and what you expect to do there). See if you can get a free consultation at a travel clinic (last time I checked they only charged for the innoculations, and did not charge for telling you what you needed). Some possible ways to cut the cost, but please discuss these with a medical professional:
Cholera: the vaccine is not really effective and for many people is optional. (Fit people, who have access to evacuation and/or proper treatment, do not generally get very ill from a cholera infection.);
Malarone is the "Rolls Royce" of anti-malarial prophylactics. A number of cheaper drugs may provide adequate protection at lower cost.
You could also ask your local GP to see you as a visitor. Or any other GP, come to that.
Incidentally, I find it interesting that your list of vaccinations does not include hepatitis. When I went to Malawi I had been told to get vaccinated against hep A, but could not get the jab, and in fact I was fine.0 -

Hi Lynz, I'll be watching this thread, I agree the prices for innoculations are incredibly high. DS1 recently went to South America and in the last few months had injections for:
Rabies
Hep A
Hep B
Typhoid, Diptheria, Polio
MMR
Tetanus
Total cost : £204, he's 17 so had adult doses. That was at his GP's surgery.
Anyhow hope you find somewhere, look forward to hearing about your trip, have a great time!Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0
