Hi everyone. Just want to try and pick some of your superior brains.
I've just bought a stand-alone mic for my pc. Didn't have a mic at all before this. Plugged it into the pink jack on my soundcard and tried recording my voice on xp sound recorder. No movement on wave line and no sound recorded.
done:
start-control panel-sounds and audio devices-voice
but on 'voice recording' "advanced is greyed out.
Be grateful for ideas!

Two more things to check on the Audio Control Panel:
Click 'Volume' tab then 'Advanced' button to display the Mixer. Check the 'Microphone' isn't mute or at 0 volume. If there isn't a 'Microphone' slider, go to Options -> Properties and make sure that 'Microphone' is selected for your soundcard - if it is not selected then it won't appear in the Mixer.
Also, under the 'Audio' tab check that your soundcard is selected as the default recording device.0 -
Thanks, mate. But managed to record sound by plugging an old pair of earphones into the mic jack and talking into them! I bought a dodgy microphone.Do whatever it takes.
