what tv do you think Sony or LG

Options
I had been researching the LG49UF700V 4K tv £699vfor a couple of weeks and went into Curry's to see about purchasing it yesterday, the rep said "you should have a look at this one" and took me over to a Sony KD49X8309 which I have to say looks a much better tv £889
I know it £200 more but has anyone else looked at either of these?
Have you got one of these?
Picture quality, which is better?
Which one would be better for sports, football etc
Are Sony TV's made by Vestel, (I have been reading bad write ups about Vestel)?
My living room is 18 feet long is this size of 4k tv ok for it?

  • Have you tried Richer Sounds?

My mate bought an LG LCD TV (not sure of the exact model), with built in Freeview and Freesat, from them, and I have to say, the quality is excellent.

Personally, I think you're paying for the name, when you buy one of the very well known brands.

    +1 for Richer Sounds.
Go into a branch and ask them for advice. IME their staff know what they're talking about. Currys staff know no more than they must do their utmost to sell you unnecessary insurance with whatever washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, TV etc, they can convince you you can't live without.

Yes I got the whole routine from them with regards to the insurance

I tried everything to get a discount or things thrown in but no movement from them at all

im just not sure which one to take

the Panasonic I have now is at least 10 years old and I have been trying to run a firestick on it but having a few problems so thought maybe the new smart tv will help things
  • write down a list of "apps" that you want with the smart TV , they are a long way from being standardised , and many smart TVs are missing specific apps.

regarding the firestick , perhaps you might get a few more yrs life by using the much more powerful fire TV , (the box one)

I have one and as well as the normal apps (amazon) it is easily configured (xbmc) to watch (FREE) modern films and view films etc from your PC

The helpful Currys employee wanted £200 extra out of you, that's all! Now you're doing your own research you'll make the right choice!

I wouldn't buy a new TV for the "smart" bits. After 2 years half of them won't work anymore because some API's changed and the manufacturer doesn't provide updates anymore.

Buy an external device which is more likely to get updates for a longer period or, if not, which is cheaper to replace.

If the picture of your current TV is still ok, then keep it and solve the problem with the Firestick.

I wouldn't trust any salesman to tell me which TV to buy.

For a 4K 48/47 inch TV under £1000, there are currently 6 Which? best buys.

    Brand Model Price Which? Score
    Samsung UE48HU7500 £999.00 83%
    Sony Bravia KD-49X8505B £849.00 79%
    Samsung UE48JU6500 £734.95 72%
    Samsung UE48JU6510 £799.99 72%
    Samsung UE48JU6740 £849.00 72%
    LG 49UB850V £699.00 71%

One thing I have noticed with my latest Sony TV is that the picture is superb when viewing 'head on'(90 degrees) but the picture quality deteriorates markedly when viewed from the side.
