Unfair ticket issued by council

I parked in a council run car park bought a ticket from a machine and went to a conference. I then realised that the conference finished an hour later than expected, so at lunch I returned to the car park to extend my ticket by an hour. However, there were no facilities to extend this from the time my parking ticket finished. I therefore purchased an additional hour and placed this ticket next to my other one so that it could be seen that an additional hour had been purchased. I was not able to return at the time the ticket ended as I was still in the conference. Anyway, I ended up with a ticket which I am currently appealing against
Has anyone else had a similar experience to this?
I feel strongly about this as I made every effort to pay for my parking and paid for the hours I had parked yet still I have been issued a ticket. I'm beginning to suspect that not providing facilities on ticket machines or information stating that that you cannot extend your parking ticket are deliberate, as it must generate a huge revenue for the council.

I am struggling to see how it is unfair, but you will probably win your appeal as you have paid the requisite amount, albeit not in the manner required. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0
