Wrong Vehicle Registration Number

Afternoon all
I parked in a council car park on Saturday and forgot to "pay and display" as we were running late for a cinema showing. I realised my mistake after 30 minutes and went out to pay.
I bought my ticket and returned to the car however, I had already been ticketed. boooo.
However, I have just realised that the registration on the ticket is incorrect by 1 digit.
My research suggests that the ticket is now invalid.
Do I do nothing, and hope nothing more happens? or do I contest it on the basis that the car I own does not match the ticket left on it?
Thanks

i have read the newbies thread but got the impression that the majority/all of the advice relates to parking companies rather than penalties imposed by the council. is there a difference?
thanks

With a council ticket, any such error is usually fatal. However you'll get better-focussed advice from Pepipoo - we major here on private parking tickets.

    thats great, thanks.
Had a look and as you say, it appears that an incorrect VRN is fatal.
Will sit tight and see what happens.

Is that what Pepipoo recommend? (Waiting for a postal notice, as I'm assuming you've received a windscreen ticket).

If yes then that makes sense ... if the VRM is incorrect then they may struggle to get keeper details. (Or they'll get details for the wrong vehicle's keeper).

    Essentially, yes.
They have no leg to stand on if the initial ticket is incorrect when issued.
  • leg no , but getting your info might be easier , if they have taken a photo ,

go over to the pepipoo forum , post the ticket , front and back after removing your details and ask there

also have you checked if the vehicle actually exists?

try the MIB database to see if its insured
