hypothetical question:
You sell your house to someone who has the same name as you (eg John Smith).. How does your mail get redirected..
When completing the redirection form, you're asked for the full name, and DOB for each person.. Obviously your DOB is not on your address, so how can they tell apart you from the new house owner?

my guess is you'd have to make extra effort to think of everywhere who would write to you, and ask them to update their details (something you need to do anyway).. Hopefully you could catch all the important financial places.. Then I guess new owner would open and see it's not them, and forward your letter on...
Thankfully, I think I am the only person with my name in the UK (pretty uncommon surname) so it would never affect me..0
