Looking at the MP's constituency I would assume it is about the high delivery charges to what some retailers and courier companies consider "outlying" areas.

There are anomalies in the system where I know that someone in a very rural area pays less for a delivery than someone in a town when the delivery is made from a depot in the town, the delivery charge is based on post code alone.
    Delivery charges in outlying areas
These are private companies and they should be left to charge whatever they want for delivery, and obviously if they charge too much they will lose their customers, and if they charge too little, they will go bust.

But one of my complaints was

Plus some retailers adding a surcharge when they use Royal Mail which charges a standard rate. I know some companies charge extra when there is an actual delivery distance of less than 100 miles when from Lands end to Newcastle would be a standard price.

.........so shop elsewhere whenever you feel you are being ripped off with delivery charges. And tweet about it. Those bad retailers will soon mend their ways.

  • My wife and I are trying to buy Aqua plus "wooden" planks for the bathroom and one company was charging just under £90 for two packs because we were in a remote area even though there are perfectly good roads all the way. We then tried a company in Glasgow and they still class us as remote. It makes no difference even when the goods are to be sent from Glasgow or Inverness to another part of the Scottish mainland. They even send it cheaper to London!
How long is it going to be before debates on this issue ends and something is actually done about it?

  • I would like to know what would be a reasonable delivery charge for a dozen metal hooks? The cost of the goods is £23+ Vat and with the delivery the total order cost is £38.10 (i.e. £10.50 delivery charge) I was shocked!

I have no choice as I can't find them anywhere else and I know the weight must be minimal.

I thought there was a rule for online distant selling and that you couldn't be charged more than it costs?
