Can anyone advise how I can get rid of silverfish. I have no idea where they are coming from but have found them in every room in the house! will one of those plug in pest control things work? Help please!

We found when we lived in our prewar bunglow that at times we suffered with them in our built in pantry and it was mainly due to it being damp in there.Once my husband demolished the pantry and got rid of the damp problem they vanished.I have just Googled and it says they like to feed on wallpaper and old books, grouting and cereals and can be quiet a problem. It says to tidy up the area where they are to be found and to spray Residual Insectisides into all the nooks and crannies of the areas where they are found.I am not sure whether the plug in fly killers work on Siverfish as well as fly's.It would be best to raed the instructions on the packaging to make sure first..Good Luck0

We used to get them on the living/dining room carpet only very noticed them in the wee hours when I worked for PO and had to be up at 4am, ouch. Cat use to go mad when he saw them. They just disappeared around the time we regularly hooved with a Dyson, not sure if it was because of that but they did go, never used any chemicals and the carpet was laid on a concrete floor.0

Had a similar problem when I moved house.
They usually only appear at night. If you have no pets or children in the house put ant powder down along the edges of walls and if possible leave it down for about a week then vacuum up. You can use spray insectiside, however, make sure you don't breath it in. Drop drain cleaner down your sink and bath waste pipes. Put plugs in at night.
I also took the kick boards of the bottom of the kitchen units and put ant powder down under the kitchen cupboards, it worked a treat.
This should get rid of almost all of them for you, however, the 'odd' one will still appear from time to time. Just spot treat the area you see them in and all will be well.
Good luck.0 -
I do have a dog and a 7 month old baby ( just starting to crawl) so don't fancy putting ant repellant down. I hoover everyday because of dog hairs! but I agree they do seem to come out at night but I find odd ones during the day that seem to have got lost! anymore ideas will be great.0

Silverfish are a symptom of dampness, and whilst you can get some insecticide, if the dampness remains then so will they.
You need to address any dampness first. This may be something as simple as condensation on cold walls or the floor edge (if concrete) or may be something more involved like a leak or penetrating damp.0
