O/S Daily Tuesday 1st September 2015

OS Daily Thread Monday 31st August This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, dull and overcast and breezy, ground drying up after the rain yesterday.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

It took us nearly 2 hours to get home a journey that normally takes 35-40 minutes. I was lucky I was in my small car so at first opportunity I shot round the back roads so my journey was quicker than DH’s with the caravan, we had a nice time away but the weather this weekend was pretty bad and means we’ve got quite a lot of wet stuff to sort out. We now have a couple of weekends where we’re not away.

Yesterday we had a snack once we were all home – but as we got held up it was rather late and then we needed to eat dinner at a reasonable time so DH and DS1 could digest there’s before going to bed. DS1 didn’t manage to stay awake long enough to eat dinner – he’d been out with friends Sunday evening and came back on the Monday morning train – he really didn’t want to get out of bed this morning either! The joys of being young! Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway but tonight will be pork chops, pots, veg and gravy. I’m working from the other office today so will then go to the MrS’s near there and collect more provision to last until the weekend.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Pinch punch the 1st of the month and no returns :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.
Thank you to nmlc for starting the thread :). I've been awake for a few hours now but I am planning a nanna nap for later on. It is dry here for now but I think it will be raining later.

I have to go out this afternoon to see my psychiatrist and then I am planning to go to a real live supermarket and get a bit of shopping all on my own :D. It has been ages since I've done that so I am actually looking forward to it. I only need bread, milk and some mince so it shouldn't take too long either.

We got rid of Max's cage last night and put him in a big dog bed. He wasn't too sure what to make of it at first but soon settled with the help of a rather large bone to keep him occupied. He really liked being able to greet me at the bottom of the stairs in the early hours as well. Thankfully he has never chewed anything he wasn't supposed to so I am keeping everything crossed that he doesn't start now. The crate was very good when he was a little puppy but I think he will be more comfortable now.

I will be making spag bol for the family for their tea but I will be eating at lunchtime. I had a weak moment yesterday and ate a jacket potato but apart from that slip up I have been able to stick to my low carbing. I will find out if I have lost any weight tomorrow morning so fingers crossed :).

Anyway, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning All

The weather is a bit nothing this morning, supposed to stay fine but I'm not sure. I'll put the washing out anyway, see what happens.

tru - start believing in yourself! Look back to when you first got Scampi and see how far you have both come. Well done to the lad who wants chickens, we could do with more of them in this world.

Gers - hope your Mum is ok.

Hugs to anyone not feeling too good.

I think the bathroom is being tiled today, there's a huge glass shower screen in the living room, hoping that moves soon too! The pile of tiles on the landing is enormous and in the way, nearly walked into them during the night when I had to come down for the loo!

Not much else going on, hope you're all well. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Dull and grey so far. Thanks so much for your thoughts yesterday. Mum and I spent about two hours in Gartnavel, she opted for the throat spray so she was in and out fairly fast. Seems that all is well so fears have been soothed away. I then took her to M&S as she wanted to do her own shopping and then we had a scone and tea in their cafe - she had fasted so needed something inside her.

All that meant I got back home yesterday late afternoon. I drove through torrential rain between Arrochar and Inveraray and then the sun came out for the last leg. I was so tired that I was in bed by 8.30, I didnt sleep too well on Sunday night , and have just woken up.

My evening class teaching starts tomorrow night so I need to do some planning for that, just a rough outline will do.

Porridge for breakfast and there's quiche for later. I've been soaking dried peas overnight ready for planting them today so that I can have fresh pea shoots in a couple of weeks. I'll be doing staggered plantings so I can eat fresh greens all winter. Think I'll do a couple of pots for mum too.

    Happy Tuesday everyone.

Morning one and all. We have the makings of a better day than yesterday, when it stayed dark and dismal the whole day. At least we have a bit of brightness this morning with pockets of blue sky, though showers are forecast later!

DD is driving back up from the IOW today with the girls, after almost three weeks down there. They are booked on the 1.30 ferry (earliest one they could get) so if the journey from Southampton takes as long as going down (7 hours!) they are going to be very late getting home. I'll be on pins all day until they are safely back. Despite all the rain they have had, they have all decided to meet up down there again next year as the weather can only be better!!

A pottering day for me, this and that to do. Plus, if Mr TA feels up to it after breakfast, we plan to repeat our walk up to the moor gate. Gentle exercise and a bit of fresh air.

Glad your mum is ok GERS. You keep reminding me of past holidays in your posts! We stayed in Arrochar 2 Easters ago. We had beautiful blue sky every day, though quite chilly. We had lovely views of the loch from our hotel.

Have a good day all whatever you are up to ((((((HUGS)))))) if needed and take care xx

    Hi everyone,

I'm glad you're doing well at the moment dumpling, good luck with the shopping.

I've got to wait in for some deliveries today, mainly wedding stuff. The house is being overwhelmed wit boxes so I will try to find better homes for some of them. I find at times like this I lose the will to do housework - I hate clutter and when it's unavoidable like now I shut down.

Anyway, I need to carry on sewing table runners, my dining table is out of use because of them which means I can't set up my big sewing machine (not that I'd have time to use it). I had to have it repaired last week, the control board and a sensor were broken, luckily it was still under warranty.

We called on DS and GF yesterday so that DH could help him change a light fitting and waterproof his shed roof. He's re-fitted their utility room which looks brilliant. He's now building shoe racks for GF's hundreds of shoes so DH drilled the holes for the dowelling for him to speed things up. He's obviously inherited DH's perfection gene (so has DD) as everything has to be just right.

When we came home DH filled in the holes in the plaster left by removing the coving in February. One of the downsids of his perfectionism is that if he isn't sure he can do a job well he prevaricates over it. I need to choose a colour to paint the walls now because I'm fed up with the beige they are and want to try something more adventurous, but I want to keep the duck egg feature wall - any suggestions?

    Hav a good day.

Gers I hope your mum's OK xx

camelot I keep peering out of the window to see if a coop has appeared in the neighbour's garden yet :D

Scampi says thank you Hester :D He celebrated his 1st birthday with a mini roast dinner :D
I'm now wondering if MrsLurcherwalker is hiding in a neighbour's garden, keeping an eye on our progress :rotfl:

The shower won't turn off properly, there's a constant dribble. I put a screwdriver in the bathroom so we can turn it off with the isolator tap but that won't turn properly either. We're going to change the tap and keep it going for a few more weeks. Hopefully :D

I need to do a few gardening jobs, it's not raining today but the garden's very soggy. I'm tempted to leave it for a couple of days and see if it dries up a bit. I'll potter about this morning then work on my blanket this afternoon.

Woke up before eight and remembered I needed to put out the wheelie bin. Got dressed, moved the bin outside the gate, took a load of glass, plastic etc out to our recycling small bins in garage , put a load of towels in the washing machine and loaded the dishwasher. I still have a load of bedding to wash as well but the weather looks grey and cloudy.

Had most of the family here for a meal last night and they seemed to enjoy the steak and mushroom pie (puff pastry lid only) and veg.
Youngest dd had experimented with a cake recipe - chocolate mocha - which was well received. Gave middle dd a couple of home frozen meals to take home and did the same for SIL as he has to stay home all day today for a delivery and having just moved in has very little food in.

Had a package arrive on Saturday (usually they are for DDs) and it was the shoes and slippers I had ordered in the H***er sale online. I love their stuff but find it expensive so was :j when I got them for around half price.

I had to chuckle when dd asked casually "Mum, when you downsize and need to reduce the china and kitchen stuff, can we put in requests? I love your blue willow teapot!" Her sister immediately chimed in with "I love that teapot too!" As I have not got a buyer for our house or seen somewhere I like yet they can sort it out then.

Going to have a nice cup of tea and check on washing.

    Hug to all

  • Morning (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

The sun has just come out, it rained most of yesterday, the garden needed it hopefully we will not have to water for a couple of days. Most of the plants are now in the garden, just the bulbs to plant this month. Need to sort out the miniature daffs from the other daffs and tulips.

No plans for today, waiting for the plumber to come to the drains again!! its only 2 months since they were cleared previously. I am going to ask them about putting the camera down and see whats going on.

Made a crumble yesterday, need to put another loaf on today, just enough left for lunch. Egg mayo and chive.
  • Morning (((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Better night last night, OH has to go to the dentist tomorrow he is off today.

Sun trying to come out, it rained most of yesterday, so hopefully we will not have to water for a couple of days. Most of the plants are in, just need to sort out the bulbs to go in this month ready for spring.

No plans for the day, plumber is due this afternoon to sort out the drain again. I am going to ask if they can put the camera down and see whats going on. Its the second time in 2 months we have had a problem. I am pretty sure its not anything I have put down the drain, I have a jar I pour fat into, or I clean out the pan with kitchen paper and bin it. I am wondering if there is a childs toy or something stuck in the pipe.
