Metro Bank security flaw

I went into Metro Bank yesterday to pay in a cheque and while I was there I asked for a replacement card. Waited about 10 minutes and got my new card and set up a PIN. Went to their cash point to make sure my card works which it did.
My question is, what's to stop someone from finding a metro debit card left on the ground or in a cash machine. Go into the bank and request a replacement card. Once that card is printed off, they insert it into their card machine where you can enter a new PIN and then have access to that account.

I assume they satisfied themselves that you were the customer first.0 -
I just wish all banks had the ability to print new card like Metro bank. Maybe this is where Bank Branches can come back into use by offering such services.
And OP, You say you paid in a cheque, And your making out they didn't ask you any security or ID etc for the new card???0 -
True, they may ask security questions if you just walked in there and ask for a replacement card but I was just going by my experience there.Littlewoods £0/£750

When you opened your account, do you remember that they took a photo of you? Did you have to sign a cheque deposit slip? Either/both would have helped them identify you when you asked for a replacement card.0

Good point, I think they took a photo when I first opened the account. I forgot about that.Littlewoods £0/£750

Yes was going to say they take a photo of you so they know its you.0

Im also assuming that if you've already had a card with a pin set up on it, you wouldn't be able to change it without the original pin. From the looks of it, you asked them to give you a replacement card - did they provide you a new PIN or did you enter your old and change it to a new one?0
-
I'm pretty sure they asked me to enter a new PIN. It asks to enter it twice but I just used the original PIN that I had for it.Littlewoods £0/£750
