  • Morning,
Woke on the west coast of scotland to a white world again - very pretty but very unusual! Snow rarely lies here, but we have a white world from early december until mid january, and now it's back. Realy cold again too! We're pretty cosy with the stove going 24/7, but am resolved to make window quilts for the bay window this year before winter.

We've found an extra layer of clothing is very very effective in saving heating bills. We started wearing thermals and extra fleeces in the cold spell before christmas. Now the outside temperature is more normal we are finding the house is 'too hot' even when the temperature is 17 or 18 which is what we would have thought was 'cold' in our 'pre thermal' era !

I will be interested to see what out bills come out like for this quarter. I can never manage to calculate meter readings into hard cash.

I routinely wear, two pairs of socks + slippers. Thermal leggings + jeans, vest, t-shirt, jumper, fleece cardigan. with all that then an indoor temp of 15 or 16 degrees is fine even when I'm, not moving around very much, as I am off work longterm ill at the moment.

try this it auto does it for you :j

I'm not sure I could cope with more snow - or my father survive it. He's just come out of hospital after having pneumonia

We've managed to keep our direct debits the same for 3 years now - just had a statement saying the amounts are okay. I'm pleased as we are in the house 24/7 and I have mobility problems. Thank goodness for fleece - what did we do without it

On the electricity front, we've managed to increase the overall national average statistics! January has cost us £200 in electricity alone, plus logs & coal. If I can average out at £20 per week over the year, I'll be topping the meter up by that every week through summer just to get ahead for next winter but hopefully, by then, I'll have my logburner installed.

All the utility companies will be whacking up the DDs after this lot. If you can possibly pay another way then I def would! No way would that lot get my money - upping the payments when people are in credit ! If we let them get away with it then bl**dy Tesco will start asking for their money up front as well !
Ahh Carrie, I thought of you when I looked at the forecast last night lol! we got some too :D
