I'm a big fan of dehumidifyers the difference it made last year was amazing and we did'nt get mouldy walls.
So it paid for itself by not having to redecorate, let alone having to bother.
They cost very little to run.
I've even put my money where my mouth is and bought a second one for this year,so I don't have to keep moving the first one about.
You can get small ones and they work realy well too,as my friend has one so you don't have to get a big one that may look out of place.0 -

Hi, as I couldnt find what I wanted I went to Kwiksew directly. I am now in the process of being a stockist myself!. I am just waiting for the catalogue to arrive at the moment. It comes from Sweden. They were talking to me on the phone on Tuesday.
Not sure how that happened, but I think I could use thier patterns etc if I do teach the basics of sewing.
:j:eek:When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi everyone
I think we are nearly ready for winter ( we moved into a flat in May and it seems quite snug)
I have a door curtain ready in case I need it and plenty of snuggly blankets now (but I'm still crocheting a new one kust in case)
My only unknown is how efficient the central heating is and that this is our only form of heating ( I have got a fan heater but OH gets palpitations if I even mention using it)
The only things I really need are a couple of jumpers or cardis and a nice warm coat (since we moved I have walked every where cos the town centre is only 10 mins walk away) but I'm not desperate yet. I saw a nice long wool coat in Debenhams today but don't need it yet and might see something else ( and there might be a blue cross day of course)
OH could also do with a new jacket but again not desperate yet.
So the money is better in the bank
Better go
Have a lovely day frugallers

I'm not surprised your OH gets palpitations when you mention the words 'fan heater'! They cost a fortune to run - i'm talking from experience!
You really should try the central heating at the first possible chance, that way if there is anything wrong (which there won't be:D) you can get it sorted without your OH having to worry about the cost of running a fan heater!0 -

Our local charity shop has just started putting their stock of winter coats out. It depends if you like wearing second hand stuff but mine came from there last winter and it was well worth it.0 -

i was perusing our local charity shops yesterday but they don't have much winter stuff out yet. years ago i bought a gorgeous full length lined wool coat for just 14 quid, now for a large woman like myself that is an unbelievable bargain!
the coat was like new and it lasted me for about 5 years before the lining became a real mess and i'd found another coat that i fell in love with for just a tenner. can't beat that price though can you? :T0 -
looking back to last year the best comfort -makers were:
Heavy door curtain
Draught excluder front door
hm crocheted blankets/knee warmers
The best money saver was without a doubt
the wireless thermostat that shut the boiler down when the lounge was warm enough0 -

Mrstittlemouse, can you tell us which dehumidifier you bought? It would be good to have a recommendation.0 -
I went the opposite way, we need to buy a humidifier for a room so our little one didnt cough all night. Got one from Honeywell, awesome buy. Stay away from the Vicks Coolmist one, broke after about three weeks.0
