Preparing for Winter

Do you think that would work? I thought I could just put the odd tacking stitch down the centre to hold it in place (sort of like quilting - but not quite). Obviously, I would stitch it all around the edges as well !! It should be quite cosy and would still fit in the washing machine.
might it be easier to attach the fleece blanket to the quilt?
you can get two in one duvets (spring and summer duvets which combine together to form a high tog winter duvet). they often attach to each other by velcro. Might be easier to sew a velcro patch in each corner of the duvet and fleece sheet rather than stitch the sheet into the duvet cover.
if you stitch the sheet into the duvet cover it may become too warm for use in the summer, meaning you'd either need to buy extra bedding or undo all your hard work every 6 months. at least with the velcro you could whip it off at whimknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
good idea. also why attach it nyway? cant you just put it on the bed between the sheet and the duvet or on top of the duvet.. I dont understand why it needs fixuing to the duvet."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

I've got loads of duvet covers - I'll just keep that one for winter.

(Sorry! Don't know how to do quotes from more than one person - can anyone tell me how?)
I wanted it fixed to the duvet cover so the fleece would be next to/ on top of me in bed. Just thought that would be more snuggly when it gets really cold. I don't use a top sheet with a duvet - I thought that was the whole ideaI just change the duvet cover every week.

Hi all,
With all this talk of fleecy blankets, I thought you might like to know that Primark do pretty good cheap ones. They vary in size and can be as little as £2 each. While i'm not keen on the clothes in there, their home stuff is usually very good for the money (especially towels).
I haven't been in recently, but seem to remember they have the fleecy throws year round. Worth a look anyway!

I think the idea is that the fleece actually next to you is much more warm and snuggly rather than a colder smooth sheet or duvet cover. It won't make much difference if it's behind a cover.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
How about buying two fleeces and sewing them up the sides to make a kind of fleece bag? That would be snuggly!0

I can imagine me having HUGE problems with that when I try to stumble out of bed half asleep for my 'middle-of-the-night loo-visit'.
It would make DH laugh though!Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -

Ooohh! You could sew a couple or three--depending on the size of course--together to make your own quilt cover!Did I mention MrA's throws are now £2 each  What's the excuse for that kind of price hike hmmm..poor summer last year meant the fleeces didn't shed their winter skins?????? :rotfl:I've now got a picture in my mind of a field full of sofa-shaped fleece, slithering away from their covers like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon:eek:........I know! I don't get out much!:rotfl::rotfl:
I think the cheaper fleeces are woven by spiders, they set up rows and rows of washing line type ropes and the spiders weave fleeces overnight.
Trouble is the very cold snap we had over the winter destroyed a lot of the spiders eggs and so there is a shortage until the warmer weather improves the breeding colonies !
