I know this will possibly seem silly to some as we have not long ago finished winter weather.

I have started to make a list to get prepared for next winter, (2009/2010).

    1. sort bubble wrap for some windows that don't really get used durinmg the winter.

    2. extra fleece blankets for snuggling under whilst watching tv

    3. extra fleece blankets for the boys beds

    4. new hot water bottles for the boys, they have had theirs 3 years now and I noticed some perishing around the necks.

    5. flannelette bottom sheets for our bed as dh is always cold in bed

    6. get boys some slipper socks which can also be used when wearing their wellies whilst playing out.

    7. get dh some thermal leggins for wearing under his work overalls, (the ones he has have fallen apart from too many years of wearing (at least 15))

    8. start putting aside any bits of wood for the coal fire, so the heating (oil) doesn't have to be on so long

    9. collect pine cones to use as fire starters, instead of buying the parafin based ones

    10. try to make some newspaper bricks to burn on the coal fire.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Mama67 how old are your boys, i have some slipper socks that have only been worn a couple of times by my son and would happily post them to you, my son is 5 feet size 10, he hates wearing socks even in the middle of winter he runs around with nothing on his feet, tried slippers as well and won't wear them so have given up.

Mama67 just read your sig and see they are 10 an 14 so they won't be much use for you.

but if anyone else wants them please pm me.

wow muppet 81 you have been busy

Have ben decorating the kids rooms this week and have used some sealant around the upvc units as they had been letting draughts in

I also paid for extra thick underlay for the new carpets coming next week to stop draughts under floorboards

I have aquired some BNIB curtains from freecycle and i have some thermal linings to sew that my mum gave me

    The result nice cosy Kids

Have been looking for nice ie plain coloured flannelette fitted sheets and duvet covers with no luck any tips??

Also looking for flannelette PJ's for DS age 8 but size 9-10 dont seem to do them in big sizes ??

Hubby has ordered 3 wind up lanterns for £10 each from one of those book club things at his work hope they are OK as thats 3 for the price of 1 of the ones i had been looking at

We too are a 1 income family and since halving our income we are no worse off than before ,lots of little savings and an awarenes where the money goes was the best help in reducing spends,it is possible to live smarter rather than work harder to spend more

    Shaz,
I've just found this thread again.

I got my boys some plain coloured flannelette fitted sheets from here not sure if they had duvet covers as well or not.

    Hi Shaz

You should be able to find flannelette sheets in Harry Corry Interiors (sells curtains, bedding, etc). I was in the other day and saw some. But you'll need to check website to find your nearest store.
