Absolutely! Mind you, I've still not managed to hang my heavy front door curtain properly. At the moment its hanging by shower curtain rings:rolleyes: I have a portier rod which I suspect is very old, its actually flat as opposed to a round shape and I'm having trouble finding fittings. Tried split rings but they weren't very successful. Anyone know where I could get some hooks of some kind that would hang on a strip of metal? All suggestions gratefully accepted ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Rosieben - at least you got a portiere rod ! Everywhere I've tried to get one, they just look at me totally blank and I have to explain what one is, then all I get is "no, we don't sell those" Does anyone know where I can get one please? Hope you find the hooks/rings rosieben !

You can get them online, just do a google search for "portiere rod" and you'll find many online stores that sell them.

All my family are sure making good use of the thermals I got them! Even DH, who poh-poohed the idea when I first asked him, has now been converted, since I bought him a load of really nice looking blue vests for £2 each when I went to the Portsmouth outlet shopping centre.

He's so vain, he would not be seen dead in a proper-vest-looking vest :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: but because these look like t-shirts he feels ok about them!

DD, like me, wears her thermal long johns under her skirt like tights. DS is delighted with his vests as his school is quite cold.

The wood that we have stockpiled is coming really handy for the coldest days, to burn in the stove.

The little humidity absorber thingies have already filled up, I already emptied the bathroom one and keep meaning to do the bedroom one, got to remember soon before it spills over!

So, overall, I am really feeling good for preparing in advance.:D
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Pagangirl, there are several for sale on ebay, but not sure if they might be cheaper elsewhere, just google it as geordie joe says and you'll find lots of options. I'm thinking I might have to replace mine with a modern one as they usually come with the fittings; most of the options I've tried so far just fell off the end of the rod :D

The last time I looked on ebay, there was a seller who had portiere rods for about £23.99.
