Hello Talking about how to keep warm during the winter to keep the price down remind me of when i was a child my nan put 4 different woollen blankets over the curtains to block the light and keep the room warm.
My mum has duvet under the matress and another duvet on top i slept there during in the summer i was almost boiled to death (too hot) but useful tip for the winter mmmmh.
Good cheap duvet from ASDA and tesco nobody know any difference between supermarket own brand and posher john lewis duvets.
Hot water bottle to keep us warm, Oh yes you can warp tee shirt or towel on hot water bottle to keep it warm/hot last longer so you dont have to nip downstair to top it up in the small hours.
Duvet or blanket in the living room to keep us warm while watch GMTV that martin lewis on ! :money: .
Whiskey to keep your chest warm but not suitable for children ! but try eat too many hot and spicy foods to keep you warm.
Hot chocolate and warm milky (Yuck) before bedtime.
Portable Gas fire to save those elec and gas bill.
Wear Vest
Coal fire if anyone have ?.
if you are single sleep on vast double or king size bed simple fold double or king size duvet in half and you sleep inside the duvet like a sleep bag its so warm and snug (yeah i have done that in the last 2 years since my divorce).
In case of power cut get the glow stick ! i bet noboby thought of it ! my mate had it in for camping, glow stick are useful in case of power cut, or your can use moblie phone backlight, if not then we can rely on full moon act as a light into our home.
Millet camping shop or somewhere in the website there is a wind up touch, wind up moblie phone battery charger etc useful in case of power cut.
Another case of power cut get portable stoves from millet suitable for camping so we wont get starve (we rarely have power cut off here in suffolk).
I ask my mum and nan for any useful tips and will back to here.0 -

Prepare for winter the Old Style way.I was stunned by the wealth of information in this forum discussion from MoneySaving Old Stylers (thrift fans) on preparing for winter, including thicker curtains, snuggly duvets and sweep your chimney. Batten down the hatches!
Well done everyone!0 -

Also i am goign to attempt the letter box thing - im still currently half way through doign the windows in my living room - i have 9 windows in one room and i have managfed to do 5 so far - going to leave the small ones for ventilation purposes and opening them (it will just tear the plastic and defeat the object of it)
Hoping once im done in here ill have enough to do my little boys 2 windows and the front door so the dog will stay snuggly too. Will be tryign that letter box cover trick.Time to find me again0 -
I went into Lidl today and found some of the ladies quilted slipper things for £2.99 so I got two pairs... Couldn't believe it, I wasn't even loooking for them.. All I need now is the thermals and I am ready for winter!0

Have turned off the radiator in our bedroom, bought new duvet (15 tog) today and put old one under bottom sheet.
One draught excluder made, another coming on, going to put them at every door.
Got the number for the company to pump foam into attic, need to ring them to-morrow for free quote.
I know that I am having to spend money on all the above, but we will be warmer and spend less next year

ATMLADY, spicy food definately helps to keep you warm.
Fresh ginger, garlic and chillies are great for warmth and for protection against colds.
Also tumeric.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:Felines are my favourite

I too am trying to cut down on having the oil on. But is it bad for the house not to have any heating on in the cold weather. Does this cause dampness?0
