Twitter Query

Morning, trying to bring myself up to speed with a new Twitter account...thought I'd cracked the basics with a tutorial, but now I'm not sure. Can anybody help please?

Question: I have been asked to send a tweet to enter a particular competition, for example. The entry info mentions the hashtag to use, which I included in my tweet, all good so far. So, I send my tweet with the answer, and include the required hashtag. Question: (and this might be really basic): 'Do I have to physically type the user name of the company at the start of the tweet?' I am following this company, and when I go into their account, I can see other tweeted entries - all of which start with the company's user name - but my tweet doesn't show up?

Help, what have I done/not done, or need to do? Thanks for any help. Jack :)

Tweets to the company will show on their Twitter feed (if that's how they've configured their account). If the competition only requires the hashtag to be mentioned then that's all you need to do, but including the company @name doesn't hurt (unless the rules specifically say not to - which is doubtful).
  • Thanks. So, does that mean that if I only mentioned the hashtag in my tweet then it should still get to their account? Also, all the tweets that are appearing on their stream (although mine's not there) that are showing the company username, is that just how it would look or have those tweeters included the @ name?

That then throws up another question, presumably, if I don't have a hashtag I would need to include an @ name at the beginning of any tweet? Or, if I am in the (followed) stream of the company, is there an option to post directly within that?

    Cheers, Jack

If the competition requires the use of a specific hashtag (e.g. #compentry) then that is ALL your tweet needs to include. (Unless the competition also requires the answer to a question). It does NOT need to mention @CompanyName. (The competition administrators will collect tweets that make the hastag reference, and then there'll be a random draw of winners).

Anyone posting to the @CompanyName Twitter account but NOT mentioning the hashtag will NOT be included in the competition.

If a tweet is appearing on the company's Twitter feed then those people have posted including @CompanyName in their tweets.

It's as simple as that. There's nothing complex about Twitter. :)
  • That's great, all understood. Thanks so much, back to my tweeting...! Jack
