Can I claim Job Seekers allowance after a Settlement agreement?

I'm filling out the form for JSA and I see the question about Why did this job end?

What should I write? Will I prejudice my case if I claim it was mutual agreement?

You should be truthful. You do stand a chance of being sanctioned depending on the reason you left.

As above just write the truth. Mutual agreement based on what? Something happened for you to hand in your notice if that something is bad enough you won't be sanctioned despite handing on your notice.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Ended up in litigation. So in the end went for a settle agreement - these are common.

Settlement agreements are usually considered to be a form of voluntary redundancy and as such would not evoke a sanction for JSA.

The settlement agreement should indicate what payments are being made including payment is lieu of notice. Presumably you received legal advice before accepting this?

Will you just be claiming contribution based JSA or do you have housing costs/partner not working?

No one will be able to tell you if you will be sanctioned, only a decision maker can make that call.
