Old Style Daily thread Monday 31st August

OS Daily Thread Monday 31st August This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Good morning everyone :hello:
I thought I would start us off as I couldn't sleep very well due to having a rumbly tummy. I made myself a cuppa and a cheese omelette and now I feel much better.
Hubby and the girls are all fast asleep and so are the dogs. I can here one of them woofing in his sleep though, very cute. It's a Bank Holiday so hubby is home today which is great as I have a few niggly jobs round the house for him to do
, it's raining though at the moment so I don't think cutting the grass is going to happen.
My lovely friend is back from Spain so I will be seeing her this week. I also have an appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow so will have to find the letter to see what time it is. I expect to just be in there for a few minutes as I am very well at the moment.
DD15 is actually going out with her friends today. It will only be the second time she has met her friends during the holidays. I know she is anxious about it but I really hope she has a great time. I've decided to play it by ear next term and see how she copes with school and her GCSE's. I have faith in her that she will be ok and if for whatever reason she is struggling I will be ready to go into school and meet with her teachers to see what can be done to help her.
I will be baking some ginger biscuits from my Winnie the Pooh cookbook today. It is the only thing I have from my childhood and I still use it regularly. I also want to make some broccoli and blue cheese soup. Hubby and the girls are having salmon and dill parcels with new potatoes and green beans and I will be having sausages, swede and creamy cabbage.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning :hello:
We were nearly home yesterday when a teenager appeared behind us on the path, on his pushbike. He slowed right down and I assumed he was going to pass us when there was room. I stood to the side, explained about wheels and told him to go ahead. He went very slowly and Scampi just stood and watched! I wasThe boy went about 10ft then sped up a bit. He stopped near our house, when I got there he was just coming out of our drive. Said he didn't know who lived there but he was looking for the house that had chickens. Turns out he lives on the next street down, his garden almost backs onto ours. He wondered if I sold chicken coops
His mum has agreed to let him have some chickens so we had a chat about fences and feed. I couldn't remember the minimum size for housing, etc. so I told him about a couple of good websites and he went straight home to to do some research. How fab is that – a teenage boy keeping his own chickens

We've had a big problem with red mites for a couple of years during the summer, this year hasn't been too bad, I think we've only dusted the chickens twice. Lice have been a bit of a nightmare though, I wonder if it's the damp weather? They must've bred like mad over the last few days, it was quite bad yesterday. We attacked the shed then dusted each chicken, by the time we'd finished we were covered in powder and looked like snowmenEach time a chicken flapped her wings, a little cloud of dust floated up, lol.
I wasn't happy with my new blanket so I played around with the colours, I think I've got it right this time so will start that today. First I need to put a load in the machine then clean the kitchen and bathroom. It's tipping down at the moment, I hope it clears up a bit so we can go out for a walk.

Morning DUMPLING and all others to join in. We have had light overnight rain but now stopped and forecast to remain miserable all day.
DUMPLING I still have a childhood cookbook too! It's my recipe book compiled in Domestic Science during my first year at grammar school! I was 11 so that makes the book 58 years old - it'll soon be a museum piece!!
Well Mr TA said he felt better in himself yesterday after stopping the horrible painkillers. The unexplainable discomfort is still with him of course and that stops him eating much but he did eat a bit more than he has been doing of late. In fact he suggested a stroll in the afternoon which surprised me after spending most days laying on the sofa. It was a slowish walk as he feels so weak but we eventually got up to the moor edge and sat on a wall to admire the views from up there. Straight ahead is the moorland, still covered in purple heather. But better still is the view way up the valley to the Yorkshire Three Peaks (Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) almost 50 miles away. It was worth the walk up and we quite happily sat on the wall for another half an hour before heading back down home. It's not a long walk but he felt he had achieved something after the way he has been feeling.
I should really venture into town today (probably B & M) for a new mop! The head came apart from the handle on my ancient one yesterday. I can't remember how long I have had so I guess I am due a new one!
Have a good day all and hope the weather is brighter where you are. (((((HUGS))))) if needed and take care xx
I am editing to say Mr TA has told me I have exaggerated the mileage to the view of the Three Peaks - it's nearer to 40 miles! Still a good long distance view though!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
Glasgow seems dry for now. I came down yesterday afternoon and hit a whole load of traffic at Loch Lomond, probably cos of the open water swimming event. Should have planned it better.
I'm taking mum for her gastroscopy this morning, she's been awake most of the night worrying about it. That's made me nervy now though I won't let her see it. I may have to stay here tonight too n
Right, I'm off to shower and get organised.
Hope everyone has a good day, it's not a holiday in Scotland so it's business as usual here.0 -
Morning all
Glad to hear Mr TA is feeling slightly better
Well done and Happy Birthday to Scampi.
Gers, I hope your mum doesn't find it too uncomfortable.
Wet here again today so the washing will have to dry indoors. It seems very quiet here today as the DGD's & their dog have gone home.
Hubby& I are both back to work tomorrow so today I need to do my roots & make sure we have everything we need for tomorrow.
We both have training tomorrow after work, hubby gets paid overtime for going but I don't, which seems a bit unfair.
Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning everyone, it's been so wet overnight and it's still bucketing down I'm beginning to consider getting He Who Knows to start building us an ARK!!!
I have had a success! yesterday we had a trip out and I visited B&M, we've both been sleeping badly because we've been getting hot, climbing out of the covers, getting cold, climbing back in etc. In B&M yesterday I found some 100% cotton bedspreads for £8.99 creamy with caramel hearts woven into them so I got us one each (we have single quilts on the big bed as I sleep hotter than him and need less tog all year) and we had the first decent nights sleep this summer! Cotton wicks heat away, light fleeces keep heat in, result!!!
TRU loved reading a success story about you and Scamps, thoroughly good behaviour from your teenage cyclist, well done that lad and just so you know I'm one of those dog walkers watching your improvements with interest and feeling the joy when you have happenings like that!!! Well done ALL of you!!!
Have yourselves a good day and if you're in Hampshire, wear water wings, Lyn xxx.0 -
Good morning all,
Has been raining all night and is still pouring now. I have a little washing to do as we are going away for a few days on Wednesday and I am trying to keep up with the washing.
DD came for lunch yesterday and we had chicken and gammon with all the trimmings, she really enjoyed it. She lives on her own and she doesn't bother doing a roast dinner just for herself.
I had my hair done on Saturday so I am nice and tidy there and I have a nail appointment tomorrow, after which must pop into Lidl and buy a few provisions for DGD1.
If anyone lives in Norfolk could you please arrange for some dry weather from Wednesday onwards, I do know it is raining there as well. I don't mind if it is cold or windy but I hate walking around in the rain - Thankyou:):)
TA I am pleased Mr TA is feeling slightly better, I wonder if the pain relief was morphine based because that can make you feel really ill
Have a good day all if you can manage it

Good morning everyone ,what a damp grey miserable day it is outside .I am staying put today, and having a pottering' day.
Most of my holiday washing I managed to get dry, (well dry enough to put on the airer in the conservatory)
I only have a bath towel and a terry towelling dressing gown on the line at the moment, and that's where they can stay as neither are urgent They won't dry indoors as it will make the house too damp, so forecast says it will brighten up a bit in the late afternoon, if they get a bit of a blow at least they will smell nice when I bring them in.
Had a nice dinner last night at DDs, and DGS Bens girlfriend Katie brought DD and I a lovely bunch of flowers as a thank you for her weeks holiday with us all on the IoW. Such a nice young lass and she adores our Ben.
Ben and her are off to Budapest this Friday, her parents paid for the trip for the two of them as a 21st birthday present for her in July. I shall be driving them up to Stanstead on Friday afternoon.
Well time for a cuppa I think, hope everyone has a good day despite the grotty grey skies
Cheers chums

Hi everyone,
Back from our week in Yorkshire and Glasgow. DD's official wedding was lovely, she looked gorgeous and she and new husband were really happy. We'd hired a flat in Park Circus which was enormous and so palatial that the bride and groom cancelled the hotel they'd booked for after the wedding to stay in the flat. Mind you they were only there for 5 hours before getting up to catch a flight to Islay.
I was so relived that after all the problems with her neck she was able to cope with the day with very little pain. Her NHS physio has been fantastic and really worked wonders.
I've been really tired the last couple of days but now have to get cracking with things for the celebration in Norfolk in 4 weeks time. First sewing up lots of doily table runners, then mod podging paper doilies on to tiles to make candle holders. Oh well, onward and upward.0 -
Morning (((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one. I can atest that morphine makes you feel very ill, it turned out I am actually allergic to it, as they discovered when I had my pacemaker fitted.
Its persisting down here, not complaining we need the rain, I have done all my laundry so no wet washing hanging around.
Bed night last night with OH and his new denture, I knew we would not get away without some histrionics, I was right. He went back to sleep, I was still awake at 6am, then fell into a heavy sleep, so feel like something the cat dragged in and forgot.
Monday clean will be sketchy, loo cleaned, bath and basin s wished and carpet in the bed room hoovered, the rest will blow the dust, it can wait till next week. I am going back to bed.0
