Payment Due Date same as Direct Debit Payment Date

I am using the Aqua Advance CC and so I have DD all set up to pay my CC balance in full. The latest statement has confirmed the direct debit amount to be the CC balance owed from the statement. However, the Direct Debit date when the payment is to be taken is the same date as the CC balance payment due date. Both noted to be 02/09/2015. I have checked my current account and have seen the DD payment details all set up nicely in the DD section.

Will this be a problem for a direct debit to be taken on the same day as the payment due date? Is there a risk of this not going through on the same day and thus becoming a late payment.

If say I make a small partial payment of the balance of the CC balance by debit card before the DD date, will they still go ahead and take the full CC balance owed as stated on the statement or the balance minus the payment made?

Sorry for asking seemingly basic questions. It seems very likely that it can go either way.

It's pretty standard for the DD date to be the same as the payment due date. Payments usually take a couple of days to show on the account, but the date shown will be due date. It's nothing to worry about.
  • The only card I have when the collection date isn't the same as the due date is the Amex Gold chargecard. They always take the money by DD about a week before the due date. My other cards (when they have any balance) tend to take the DD on the due date. It used to worry me because if you pay by debit card you are advised to pay a few days in advance to make sure it shows on your account by the due date. I've not had any issues with the DD payments so I would say there is nothing to worry about.

Different card companies seem to take different approaches to collecting payment by DD if you have already made a payment before the DD date, Some will still take the amount they have put on the statement, some will only take money by DD if the payment you made was less than the minimum shown on the statement, Amex will take full amount even if you have already paid them; I actually paid my bill in full manually before going on holiday only for them to take the full amount again by DD technically leaving my account in credit.

I would suggest reading the T&C to find out what the card company do, either that or give them a call.

There is nothing to worry about, unless your bank rejects the DD due to insufficient funds.

Sometimes DD go out a day or two later, particular if it is due to be taken on a weekend. Then the payment goes out on Monday, but gets credited to your account with the due-date.

Hi, Its this part that is important and correct exactly as you have written it and understood it.

If and I say IF, something goes wrong, its their problem not yours ;) This shows that its all set up correctly.

OH keeps his Santander paper statement confirming the same.

They only thing that can be your fault, as already said, is insufficient funds in your bank account.
