Searching my credit file without making an application, please help!

Hello,

I need some advice please... I thought I would check my credit file and noticed that 2 days ago Vanquis searched my credit file (which put my rating even lower than it already it). However I didn't make an application to them. I have in the past, but it was about a year ago.

Are they allowed to do this? And if so why?

It depends exactly how the search was recorded.

It is more likely to be something like 'Administrative review' which is (I believe) of little importance.

If it says something like 'Credit application' then you need to get in touch with them ASAP.

On Credit Expert it says I made a credit card application on the 28th (I certainly did not). I can't even get in contact with anyone until after the Bank Holiday now too...

You need to get on this ASAP on Tuesday as this is at best a mistake and at worst someone is making fraudulent applications using your identity.

I would be getting copies of my other CRA files straight away and I suspect you could pursue at least Notices of Correction on all of your files while you are waiting for this to be resolved.

Don't worry about what your credit rating/score is, whats important is your credit history.

Vanquis do issue cards for other people - for example, Aqis is Vanquis issued and the Argos credit card (not store card) are both Vanquis too.

I know it sounds obvious, but if you did make an application a year ago - are you sure it isn't that one you are looking at (2014)?
