Cover note

I bought a new car last week and rang my insurer to put it onto my policy. The agent put a start date of September 25 instead of August 25 and an hour later rang back to alert me of the mistake. He was very apologetic, but said that the policy change had been put into their system and couldn't be changed. He offered to send me a cover note for the missing month and did so, with a covering letter explaining the mistake. I received these and the certificate for my new car (valid from Sept. 25) a couple of days later. I am therefore fully insured, but am still worried that I might be picked up as uninsured as the car doesn't appear on the MID database. Will the police be happy with all this paperwork? I get my insurance with a company linked to my job and so it still sends out documents etc. by post rather than online.

The cover note will be legally covering you.

Insurers don't have to update the MID immediately.

You should keep the cover note with you just in case you get stopped.
