OS Daily Thread Sunday 30th August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

• Morning one and all. A fine day forecast, though not much sun promised! I have a pile of towels to wash so will pop them in shortly and get them pegged out.

MEANMARIE good luck to your DS, that sounds hard work to me who hasn't been on a bike for about 20 years! I agree about it being a bad year for berries as it's been the same here. For no known reason I didn't get a single gooseberry this year and about 2 blackcurrants!! We haven't been foraging this time as I still have a big assortment of stuff left from last year in the freezer which must get turned into jam and chutney soon.

When Mr TA got up yesterday morning he said he felt lousy and is convinced the new painkillers (prescribed nearly 3 weeks ago) are making him feel worse, without actually doing a lot to help control the discomfort. So he has decided to stop them and stick with Paracetamol 4 hourly to see how he feels. By evening he looked so much brighter and said he felt it too, though the discomfort was, as always, still there. Maybe when we go back to Oncology next week they can try an alternative which doesn't have all the nasty side-effects he's been getting.

No plans for today other than a bit of ironing and pottering in the garden, weeding, deadheading etc. I have never known us have as many weeds springing up as this year, but I'm thinking it's because of the abundance of strong winds we've been getting blowing the seeds about.

DD and the 3 GDS don't come back from the IOW until late Tuesday, making it almost 3 weeks since we have seen them. We have missed them so much but, once they are back, and the sleepovers and school runs start again we might think differently!!

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))) if you need them and take care whatever you are up to xx

Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a lovely bright morning here but I'm not surprised after seeing such a beautiful sky last night. The colours were breath taking and made me think of Heaven.

I got up to see two very happy dogs ready for a run round the garden. Thankfully they hardly bark so I don't have to worry about them disturbing anyone. They have had their breakfast and are now flopped on the floor by my feet. The cat is absolutely disgusted we have Milo staying again so stays out of sight :). He barely tolerates Max so having two crazy pups here is just too much for him.

My mum has moved into a bungalow a mile or so from us. She had a horrible stressful time of it as her removal people rang her the night before to say they were double booked and couldn't do it. Thankfully my sisters and brother along with nephews and friends managed to get her into her new home but not without a lot of tears and upset. At least she and her husband can start unpacking now and sorting out and I won't have the worry of her falling down the stairs again.

I won't be going to church this morning as I feel I need to be home today. Hubby is cooking a roast chicken and making some mash and beans for the girls and himself. I will be making some creamy garlic and parmesan cabbage to go with my chicken. The low carbing is going great but I made an orange and chocolate cake yesterday and felt a bit sad I couldn't have any. I will get used to it and my goodness, I have plenty of willing testers to try them out :rotfl::rotfl:.

Anyway, that's all from me, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning everyone.

It's dull and damp here though it may brighten up. No washing to be done as I got it out yesterday.

Today I'll be putting stuff back on the windowsills and doing some light housework! Dusting needs to be done downstairs and I'll get some cream polish on the fire surround and the leather sofas, they look very dry.

Later I'm off back down to Glasgow - mum is having a gastroscope tomorrow morning and won't be allowed home on her own. Not that I'd let her go on her own anyway. I'm not sure if I'll get back later on Monday or sometime Tuesday.

The new windows are just so good, no more morning condensation! I decided not to have the six-paned windows and instead have just ordinary ones (one piece each in the two sections) and the difference in the amount of light coming through is staggering. Now it's really bright.

TA - there's usually a dedicated pain consultant / clinic where the staff have specialised knowledge and experience of pain management. When my father was terminally ill with pancreatic cancer he refused to take tablets. Luckily we had a now deceased friend who was the psin consultant in Newcastle and he prescribed morphine patches which were highly effective. No one should be in pain these days but it does take some fiddling around to find the best one for each person. Go for it.

Right, I must get ready to face the day. There's more porridge and then leftover teriyaki beef and noodles for later.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Morning :hello:

We almost had a result yesterday – two new dogs with their owner, one perfectly behaved Scampi, lots of treats and praise. Til they walked away, then he acted like an intimidated hard-man-teenager (you know the type?!!) - 'yep you'd better leave or I'll have you'. lol. Apart from that, he's listened to everything I've said for two whole days. I even managed to stop him barking at a pigeon :D
MrsLurcherwalker I had two more compliments yesterday, I've decided I should believe them, lol.
LameWolf It was starting to feel like Scampi's episodes were normal – one long episode with the occasional calm moment :D

We went to choose tiles for the bathroom, I found one style I liked but thought they'd be a bit expensive. They were - £95 per square metre  I need just over 5sqm, the tiles were going to cost more than the shower cubicle. The man tried to tell us we needed some expensive fancy grouting that costs a fortune, it's what they'd use for tiling swimming pools! I picked myself up off the floor, lol, left the shop and popped next door, I found something else for less than a third of the price. They were more helpful in there too. We'll go back in a couple of weeks to order from them.

Nothing planned for today, I was looking forward to a lazy day but I've actually woken up with some energy :D I'll potter about this morning and get a head start on tomorrow's jobs, mondays are always busy but the other trus will be off work (not sure about miss tru) so they'll mess my day up, lol. Might watch a film later this afternoon.

Morning All

Not managed to get on for the past few days, I've been quite busy and not feeling too great, my eyes have been really sore and it's not hayfever. I think I have narrowed it down to shampoo, realised when I used baby shampoo I didn't have the problem so will try that again.

TA, hope Mr TA feels better and he is able to get something more suitable.
Gers - Sounds like your windows are perfect, I'm sure you will feel the difference in a couple of months.
HH - That's an early start!
Dumpling - Well done for staying away from the cake!
MM - Good luck to your DS, how are the babies?

2 loads of washing on the line and I have waxed a chest of drawers that I painted for DD, she should get the keys to her new flat on Wednesday but we'll see. Hope it's soon as she has been waiting for ages and my house is so full!

Going to meet DD in Glasgow this morning as she stayed in town last night with friends, they all went to see Paulo Nutini, will have brunch and then I will pick up my new bike (bought a Dutch bike as it is better for my back). Friends coming for dinner later.

Hope you all have a good Sunday. Take care. XX

Dumpling - the sky really was beautiful last night. A friend and I both posted similar images at around the same time - only she's currently in Bude and I'm on the Bristol channel.
• Mmorning (((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

We also had a fabulous sunset last night, rolling deep pink clouds......its dull, the sun keeps trying to get thorugh but so far had not managed it.

OH is off to mow the front grass, its getting quitlong, O may go out with the hoe and hoe down the weeds again. There are a few dandelions that are being bery stubborn, will see if i can weed killer them without affecting the plants neat by. We have one which is growing in the root of a rose. Its a very pretty rose, so do not want to kill it although judging from the root its been in the garden a long time. I might replace it another year.

Chicken for supper, have enough strawberries for dessert, so thats sorted.

Laundry all up to date, ironing up to date, so I guess I can have what my grandmother used to call a sodding about day!!

Good morning everyone I am back and rested from my holidays on the IoW.Dreadful journey home yesterday as the traffice was horrendous a two and a half hour journey took me almost double. The Sat-nav directed us away from the Motorway which was lovely as Mikey and I (I had the youngest DGS and the luggage and the hamster in my car :):):))had a nice journey through the New Forest and apart from the odd motorbike it was relatively calm.
Then as we neared Kingston the traffic said that the M25 was blocked so redirected us through Kingston and London.

Not a problem for me as I know the way pretty well but I think from Wimbledon until the other side of Catford it was nose to tail and I think I caught every bleesed red light around .But we made it eventually thank goodness.

Last night after dropping DDs stuff off I got home around 6 ish and it took me another hour to empty the car out and sort the washing.
By 7 the WM was churning away and I was unpacked and all the bits put back where they should be.

Boy, was it humid as well and there was a slight storm which didn't really cool things down much. When going through my accumulated post I have an invitaion to my oldest friends wedding in Novemeber Bless her .

Her partner has been trying to get her up the aisle for almost 20 years :):):) She had a miserable first marriage which she said she would never repeat, but he has at last got her to say Yes, and I am so pleased for her as she is one of my oldest friends and her and her OH are just perfect together.

So Now its climb on the scales and see how much damage the two weeks of holiday has done to my waistline, as I want to buy a nice outfit for the 'do' :)

Life will get back to normal now, and a good overhaul of my eating is needed as I have two and a half months to lose a few surplus lbs :)

No cooking to do today as I am off to DDs for dinner tonight ,but I've told her that I am wanting to lose extra 'holiday poundage' so I will not be having many potatos ,but loading up on veg instead :) its definitely gotta go :):):)

Out go the biscuits and in come the fresh fruit :)
We had a great time on holiday although the second week was rubbish weather-wise it didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves.

Boys are back to school next week, and Mikey is starting at senior school and is looking rather smart in his new blazer and collar and tie

DGS Jack did well in his three early GCSE science exams he took this year.Head down for the main ones this coming year though as he will be 16 in February so this year is an important one.

They are all growing up so fast, even the youngest Mikey is nearly as tall as me:)

Right off to sort out my finance's which have taken a bashing over the past few weeks

Hope everyone is having a nice Bank Holiday what ever you are doing
Cheers chums JackieO xxx

Good Afternoon everyone, a dry morning here I think the rain will arrive later in the day and we might be entertained by some lively thunderstorms over night, Produce picked and frozen early and He Who Knows had to go to the Skoda garage to sign the paperwork for the updated car that we get next week!!! I was dropped off at A*da but they didn't have what I wanted and then popped across the way to B&M who did have what I wanted so that was good. We spur of the moment popped into the local boot fair on the way home and I got that Zebra a pair of wellies size 6 as his small ones are 4 and a half and he's 5 and a half so these will be good, red with ladybirds on he'll love them. I also got him a sit and ride Mickey Mouse Schoolbus which has a carrying compartment under the seat and apparently with batteries in makes all sorts of interesting noises, he'll love that too. We're skypeing with them this afternoon which will be lovely. Don't have to cook lunch as we're having the rest of what I made yesterday and supper tonight will be shepherds pie and homegrown veg with gravy. I'm a bit fed up with 'summer food' now and having hankerings for stews and casseroles but it's still a bit warm most days, shepherds pie is a halfway house I think!

TRU well done to both of you, people do share your successes when you have a feisty little lad like Scampi, it's always nice to see a success happening!

JACKIE glad you have a nice holiday, home is nice though isn't it? I love to go away but I like coming home best! Lyn xxx.
