Are tax credits paid in arrears

Hello hoping someone can advise.
My youngest child has ended non advanced education as she is starting university.
I receive my child tax credits weekly on a Wednesday, my last payment was on 26th August and my award ends on the 31st August.
Was my payment on the 26th the last payment or am I due a few days of CTC,
I have budgeted for last weeks payment being the last one so this is more a query.
Thank you in advance

    Yes they are.

The exception to this is if you're on 4 weekly payments, where part may be paid in advance and part in arrears. This doesn't seem to be the case for you.

There's no rule about paying in advance or arrears. You get a regular payment day when you start claiming and that stays the same, eg every Wednesday, or every fourth Weds if you get paid 4-weekly.

The award is worked out for the award period, usually a whole year but in your case up till 31 August as there's a change then. It's then divided by the number of payment dates in that period.

Your award notice will tell you when your payments will be made till.
