Using policy holder's NCB for a different main driver
Options
I have Tesco car insurance, where I was the policy holder and the main driver, and my partner was a second driver. My partner is about to start a new job which will result in her doing most of the mileage, so yesterday I swapped us round so that she's the main driver.
When I got the new docs by e-mail, I noticed that the no-claims bonus is still 8 years - i.e. mine, not hers, as she has no NCB. So, thinking I'd made a mistake, I phoned Tesco to tell them this, and they told me that we can still use my NCB even if she's the main driver, because I'm still the policy holder.
Now, at the risk of complaining about something that's to my financial benefit - is that true?? I swear I've heard that this is called "fronting" and is illegal? And I don't think any of the comparison sites I've used offer the option of using my NCB even though I'm not main driver any more.

It is not fronting because the insurance company are fully aware of the situation.
Fronting is normally where a lower risk driver takes out insurance and claims they are the main driver when in fact it is a named driver with possibly higher risk. Also the insurer would not be told of this at the time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The ncd normally gets awarded to the policyholder irrespective of who is the main driver.
The policyholder does not have to be the main driver.0 -
That's how it is with me and the wife.
I'm the policy holder with 10 years NCD and the wife is the main driver because she uses the car more often but has never held her own policy.0
