Tricky choice?

Options
I need a car to commute to and from work (16 miles a combination of country lanes and A road) so fuel economy is a must as I am on limited income

BUT

I can't get a very small car as I have 3 dogs (one of the reasons my income isn't larger). One dog is large (rottweiller size) 1 medium and 1 small.

I am looking for suggestions for a suitable car that would offer me both space and fuel economy. Need decent leg room in the front as hubby is over 6ft tall.

Any ideas? My current Ford Focus is coming to the end of its working life so need to replace it in the near future. Have about 6k to spend.

What's up with another Ford Focus?
  • I want something a bit more economical and also more space. Even with the seats folded there isn't enough 'flat' space for 3 dogs to travel safely.
Only getting about 40 mpg atm.

Why? Because a few things have gone wrong recently?

I would suggest a Focus Estate, or if you want a bit more space a Mondeo Estate.

40 mpg is fairly good for a medium size petrol car.

for 16 miles a day fuel consumption isn't really the be all and end all. You aren't going to save a heap of money.
You would get a decent petrol Avensis estate for your budget that would meet your needs.

Berlingo is a good call or a Skoda Roomster Back seats lift out if you don't have rear seat passengers,
I think for a Rottweiler you don't want too high a car to jump in and out of with their dodgy hips and shoulders.

Fiat Doblo too. Find an ex-motability car and you'll get a nice low mileage one-owner example with bags of room and probably well under valued for what they are.

Cut the yearly fuel consumption by cycling to work in the lighter/warmer months?
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
