A car dealer problem

Hi, hoping someone is going to be able assist me.
We bought a car from a garage forecourt in Halifax, we are from Blackburn, so 30 ish miles away. The advert for the car stated that there was 2 keys, when we viewed the car, the salesman said he only had one but would be getting the other one from the previous owner.
We liked the car, left a deposit and picked the car up a couple of days later, paying the balance, but still only one key. He said he will let us know when he gets the 2nd key. After 2 weeks, I rang to be told that they are definitely getting the key and will be in touch.
Now 4 weeks after purchasing the car I rang them today to be told, sorry we can't get the key. I said well you will have to get me a second key made up (about £90 to be programmed), he said he would not, I said I bought the car on the understanding that there was 2 keys, he said he doesn't have to.
Is this correct? I have a copy of the advert & a receipt for the money we paid.

Yes, he has to give you what was advertised or he's in breach of contract. The question is how far will you take it for a £90 replacement key?
Send them a letter before action (LBA) outlining you demands.0 -

How did you pay for the car?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

paid cash, no card machine.

Then your best bet is as advised above - write them a letter before action - state the car does not meet its description due to 1 key being missing and that they can either provide 2 keys as agreed, issue a partial refund to allow you to get a key done yourself or rescind the contract and give you a full refund. You keep using that word. Do you still have a copy of the advert stating that 2 keys would be supplied?
If not, you might still be able to find a cached copy on Google (providing of course that the original ad was online).0 -
Ring the dealer and tell him if he's not willing to adhere to the contract you'll be returning the car to his forecourt and await your refund.0

thanks for all the replies, going to ring again Tuesday stating that he is liable for the 2nd key and see what he says.
If I don't get anywhere I will write a letter and go from there.
I still have the advert stating 2 keys, its still online as well so have bookmarked page & printed a few more copies off in case they are required.
Will keep you updated0 -
You have been advised to write a Letter Before Action. Rather than waste time phoning again why don't you do that? You've been 'fobbed off' up to now. Time to show them you mean business.
