It all depends what you are looking for. I wouldn't go for either but for someone else either of them might be great.

    Both banks are ok.

    What ever branch is closer.

Although Barclays are much more strongly moving towards e-banking and closing branches. Getting rid of desks etc for machines, all banks will follow of course. Barclays are also involved in unethical things.

I have been a customer of both and prefer Halifax. Halifax pester you to upgrade all of the time in online banking, but Barclays also pushes account features in your face. I always got the feeling from barclays they do not value the small man, and prefer people with lots of money. At Halifax they always have a person to greet you rich or poor.

I would prefer TSB out of all, but they too far away and now owned by the Spanish, Williams and Gynn will be my new bank when it opens I think.

xenophobia abound. Presumably you also won't fly BA because they are "owned by the Spanish"? And not drive a car because all car makers are foreign? I do hope your PC/Mac/tablet/phone and their Operating Systems are from proper british firms.

There is nothing wrong with having accounts with TSB.
