Old Bank Accounts

My father gave me a couple of old pass books one RBS and the other Halifax. I sent off to mylostaccount and got the reply that they couldn't find the accounts. Both branches have now closed. Is there any way of being able to reclaim the money?
Many thanks

You can go to any branch, or write to the main correspondence address which you'll find on their websites.

Don't expect an immediate response, as they'll have to retrieve information on the dormant accounts, which might take a little while

Santander told me an old passbook account could not be found.

I went to branch and they found it dormant, they were able to re-open it again and let me take out the £15.:D

If a bank cannot agree on the validity of your claim, or is unable to find an account, you will have the right to appeal through the bank's internal complaints process.

If the appeal is unsuccessful, you will have the right to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London, E14 9SR, Telephone: 0845 080 1800. Website: https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk

Note that you can't inquire about someone else's account unless you have a PAO or probate.

Be aware that the 0845 number may no longer be correct.

Try calling the matching 0345 number first. If it works, it will be a cheaper call, else look on their official website for an update.

Remember, the passbooks may have been reported lost and the money already repaid.
