online UK supplier for Amlodipine, high blood pressure (& other 'human drugs')

my cat has just been prescribed this by our vet, it will probably be a few weeks before the correct dose is sorted but i'm just trying to plan ahead.
she's already on vidalta for hyperthyroidism & i've easily been able to get an online price that our vet will then price match (plus an admin charge, but it's still cheaper than their extortionate prices! nearly £128 for 90 tabs compared to about £50 online).
just tried to do the same for amlodipine & i've only found one supplier in the UK, petdrugsonline (but it only comes in one size so may not be suitable for price match comparison)
does anyone know of any online stockists in the UK?
many thanks

A google search brought up these
http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/amlodipine-tablet-5mg/prd-ihh
http://www.medicines4pets.co.uk/p-281-amlodipine-5mg-per-tablet.aspx
https://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?zenid=f4mtpbt3rtu3jd0dl2srqtn9p3&main_page=advanced_search_result&inc_subcat=1&search_in_description=1&keyword=amlodipine&categories_id=21&pfrom=&pto=
you could also try Boots Chemist who do accept veterinary prescriptions. Other high street chemist may also.0 -
Animed Direct are one of the cheapest and very reliable suppliers, but don't have the drug listed. Does it have a brand name, rather than the generic amlodipine ?
If not, Animed will give you a quotation, as they ask you to contact them if your drug is not listed .0 -
thanks for the replies
it would appear that this is a human drug so the majority of the pet meds suppliers can't list, but can supply if you contact them, which i've now done.
once we get the dose sorted & her BP down to normal level i should be able to sort something for a price match from our vet. they've charged me 79p per tablet @ 0.625mg at the moment, compared to 43p for a 5mg from petdrugsonline, shocking!0 -
I suspected as much, as I had the same when my last dog had used up all the heart med options. I had to sign a form for the vet, to say that I agreed to his prescribing a drug not accredited for animal use and luckily, being diuretics, they were only a few pence each.
However, just after I lost Monty, they did bring out a veterinary equivalent, which could be bought from animal pharmacies.0 -
it looks like i should be able to get this from a normal chemist via private (vet) prescription, boots & lloyds do it at least & petdrugsonline actually suggested this as they don't stock the size i was looking for.
it's definitely something i'll look into as lloyds have an online price of just 5p per a 5mg tablet (you have to phone boots to get a price).
i did actually call our vet's pharmacy & they quoted a price of 0.25p per 5mg x 28 tablets. so there's still a possibility that i've paid way over the odds at the moment due to the small quantity & size to trial for 14 days.
we'll see, but whatever happens, i'm not paying super inflated prices from the vet!0 -
I think the cheapest I found was https://www.chemistdirect.co.uk for this drug, far far cheaper than any of the online veterinary companies0
