Just about every car in wet and salty UK over three years old that doesn't have a rubber boot over it.

I didn't open the bleed nipples, I opened the brake fluid reservoir cap, the listen rotated back in without any problems, a little stiff, but I have checked all brake lines for any leaks or burst seals and there isn't any sign of leaking fluid around the master cylinder or anywhere else for that matter.

The £100 comment I made was an guesstimate, I've never had brakes done in a garage as I've always done it myself or had a friend do them for me so wouldn't actually know how much it costs for a professional job, maybe should of left that comment out.

If the seals in the master cylinder burst then you won't see fluid pouring out - you'd feel it when you brake and the dual line brake system turns in to a single one consisting of one front wheel and one rear wheel on opposite side. The seal is internal and designed to maintain some braking ability when components fail.

ok, shortly after the brakes had been done I took the car for a drive for about 10 mins, (quiet sunday afternoon, with no traffic on the road) there were no braking problems, feelings through the brake pedal that there was a problem, the vehicle didn't pull to any side going forwards or backwards under hard braking.

Thanks everyone for your input and really appreciate your advice, especially from you Arcon, I presume from your knowledge that you are in the trade :-)
