  • One thing I should have added.
    What I stated about the Sale of goods act only applies if you bought from an Amazon seller based in the UK.
    Amazon themselves are base in Luxembourg so the act doesn't apply to them although I wouldn't be surprised if Luxembourg consumer law is very similar to that of the UK as most EU countries have their legislation written to comply with EU requirements.

    The 6 month burden rule is universal. And upon looking at the EU directive, it seems postage costs are too.
    3. In the first place, the consumer may require the seller to repair the goods or he may require the seller to replace them, in either case free of charge, unless this is impossible or disproportionate.

    4. The terms "free of charge" in paragraphs 2 and 3 refer to the necessary costs incurred to bring the goods into conformity, particularly the cost of postage, labour and materials.

    Looking at the implementation follow up, the only countries listed as not transposing that requirement directly is czech rep, sweden and germany so a good chance its in luxembourg law also.
