Dispute over payment with Property Managing Agent >

I'm a homeowner living in a block of 3 flats, part of a larger estate on a private road, all managed by same Managing Agent, I won't name them.

In July we each received a letter saying our account (the 3 flats) was in deficit from 2014 as they spent too much more than they projected.

Long story short, external decorating cost more than they thought so everyone in flat got a demand for an extra £1000.

When I say external decorating, they painted 8 window frames and a front doot, took 2 days and the bill came to.... £5,500.

I wrote to them in July politely asking to see a breakdown of work and quotes, they haven't responded to that or my follow up emails.

Only correspondance I've had is from their finace people saying account overdue etc, I've now received a final warning and they've added £60 to my bill.

I assume once I've paid, that's it, I've got zero chance of getting money back?

Do you think I should contact the Property Ombudsman?

If anyone else has experience something like this, can someone please advise on my next best move?

Thanks for your time, hope I've posted this in right place.
