Garage doors (electric) - advice please?

We have two rather heavy wooden garage doors at present - only a few years old and in good condition.
Thinking of converting to electric, remote-operated, but unsure of the best options or likely cost.
Any advice, please, on whether it's best to keep the existing doors and have them motorised or start from scratch with new doors - or maybe a roller system?
Any rough ideas on cost (we're well away from the London area) per door? Or the best type of door? Or recommended installers?
All comments and suggestions gratefully received - this is a subject I know nothing about at all!

At a previous house we had a double garage with a metal up an over door. It was extremely heavy and as my husband had a heart condition, I had to open and close it each time. We decided to get an electric door opener.
We initially got a DIY one and paid somebody to fit it. It worked well for a year or two and then started playing up and wasn't reliable.
We then bought a new door and electric closer. I am pretty sure it was a Bosch, it was great, no problems at all. It had been fitted for about 4 years when we sold the house, 3 years ago and as far as I know it's still going strong.
We live in Lancashire if you need recommendation, I cannot remember the cost, but to us it was worth every penny.0 -
Our neighbour converted side hung wooden doors to electric so it can be done.
I prefer my electric sectional door, £2000 fitted for a double with windows. Evidently windows are expensive, I don't know why.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
I've used http://www.garagedoorsluton.co.uk/ several times now, a family business, have a word with Gary about what you need, they do cover a wider area, so may well be able to get to you.
I had two Securoglide doors, roller shutter, insulated, maintainence free, lots colour choice, compact and quiet in operation.
I'm going back about five years, but certainly under £2000 for 4metre wide.

Forgot to mention that £2000 was for double skinned insulated Hormann, got to keep the car warm. It's my workshop too but nobody cares about me. About 5 years ago too, local company too.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
