Give OFGEM a ring give them details.
Would not trust Scottish Power i had a year battle with them , they try to wear people down till they give up and pay.
I had about 8 different readings and amounts they claimed were owed.{Commercial unit}
They changed meters between bills good job i took photo of readings.
Tell them straight if they do not sort it ASP you will be going to OFGEM
Utterly pointless advice, consumer complaints are not handled by OFGEM.

Where a previous tenant has a debt it is a very bad idea to jump in bed with the previous supplier.
Just cut them straight off, new contract, new firm.
They will sort the meters and you wont be worrying about them loading the keys with a hexcode thats syphoning off the credit, most new firms will fit new meters if you pass a simple credit check.
Debt gone, unhelpful firm gone and previous tenants problems gone.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

You're right that they did as I went to them myself when my signature was forged by a door-to-door energy sales person to switch to his company. I haven't been able to find anything definitive to say when consumer complaints moved to Ombudsman Service but it might have been 2002.0 -
If you don't have electricity then they should send an emergency engineer out, which means within 4 hours.
British Gas wouldn't change my prepaid gas meter so I had to change to EDF and they did it for free. It took weeks and weeks to change over to them though. The elec meter was already with EDF and as the meter was above head height they changed it as an emergency. A guy came and did it within the hour.0 -
Ofgem haven't dealt with complaints since 2000. It was energywatch that used to deal with complaints but they're long gone.
If you need further advice, contact the Citizens Advice consumer service on 03454 04 05 06.
Ombudsman Services: Energy will only take on a complaint if you've being trying to resolve it with your energy company for 8 weeks or you have a deadlock letter from the company. There is no point in calling them now. They will simply tell you to contact ScottishPower again.
ScottishPower absolutely have to wipe the old tenant's debt asap. Hope they come out and get the gas PPM sorted for you.0 -
Scottish Power are the worst. I believe they were the most complained about company last year.
They like to do things like pretending to transfer you and then just leaving you on hold forever, or just "accidentally" cutting you off so you have to go back to the font of the queue. There was an undercover program which caught the supervisors directing the call handlers to do this on purpose. The working conditions, training and staff pay are all the worst in the industry.
They also like to "forget" to cancel your contract after you've requested a cancellation. They'll deny all record of it, so make sure you call multiple times to check they've actually cancelled your contract and insist on written confirmation.
Take photos of your meter readings with date evidence, as they will almost certainly screw up the figures they send to the new company.0 -
Hi AndyAtu, I'm really sorry to see from your posts that there was so much confusion when you contacted our Customer Service Centre - this is not the level of service we aim to provide. I can see that a Reset code was provided for the electricity, and a job booked for to have a Gas engineer attend to wipe the debt from the meter. I hope this has sorted the issue for you, if not please let us know!“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Scottish Power. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -
Hi Scottish Power, yes, the meters have now been reset, however, I've not had anything from Scottish Power about the £20 that I had used to charge the keys and have now been lost, I.e. £10 on electricity that went towards the debt and another £10 on gas that was lost when I was issued with another card.
How do I arrange refund of this?
Thanks!0
