This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning gang,

Thought I would get you started before I go, I have been to bed honest ! I went at 8 yesterday evening and went straight off so feel quite rested.

DD is up and in the shower will wake OH at 1.30 as he came to bed much later. Taxi coming at 2.40.

I have all my bits and bobs done yesterday but am not very pleased with my hair, the girl cut off much more than I asked her to and its not even ! ah well it will grow back I suppose.

Plane leaves at 6 so should be in south of France and 29deg heat by breakfast time.

Have good weeks all xx

TA I do hope you hear something soon, and that MR TA feels a bit better xx

Morning everyone - though I really hope it's still Friday. Otherwise I'm in trouble!

After a very wet morning yesterday the weather sort of cleared up, which was good news for the window installers. I now have three new windows with the final one coming up today. Because the house is very old it's been more than fiddly for them and they are very particular and even walk through the garden into the big barn and out the other side to the van rather than the shorter route of the living room.

This morning I have a three hour training session on 'Blackboard' software, it's been two years since I used it so some refreshing of my knowledge is great. Then I sit my Access test and then the weekend is mine.

I hope everyone has a good day.
  • Good morning all,

Thank you RR for starting us off and I think we undertand how excited you were, but I hope you are travelling on the right day :):):):):) Have a wonderful holiday you deserve it.

The weather is good this morning, I hope it lasts.

We need to pop into town so will drop DGD1 off at work on the way.

We are going away for a few days next week, so looking forward to that, I hope sunny Norfolk will live up to it's name, we love Norfolk.

Hairdressers tomorrow for a tidy up and have asked DGD1 to let me know what food she wants me to get in for her whilst we are away. It won't be very much because she is at work all day but if she wants to make a meal for her boyfriend I want to make sure there is something in.

    Have a good day all

    Morning all,

    have a wonderful time redruby.

Bad start to the morning, 'Youngest' overslept. How many times does he have to be told, the reason he cant sleep at night is because of his gaming habits before bedtime! Good job the job he's on finishes today. He's off elsewhere on Monday. He's trying to juggle his old life with his new life and its not working very well.

Nothing planned for the bank holiday this end though i did end up at Weston Super Mare the other day (spur of the moment thing). Weather wasnt very pleasant though. Walked past that Dismaland place but from what i'd heard, i wasnt tempted to visit. Theres enough doom and gloom in the world.

Stuff to do in the house today. Strip the beds, vacuum throughout that sort of thing.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Morning all. I too hope RR hasn't set off for the airport on the wrong day!! Seeing Saturday the 28th really had me confused and it doesn't take much to do that these days.

Yesterday I was feeling down and depressed all day and didn't bother posting, but this morning it has changed to anger with regard to Mr TA and his treatment. Because NET tumours are usually slow growing they are not expecting any significant changes during the wait for treatment to start. Therefore can't be rushed through as urgent. Plus - and we have been covering this same problem ever since he was first diagnosed over two years ago - no cause can be found for the pain and discomfort he has been experiencing exactly behind the original op site which stops him eating. After numerous scans and examinations by 5/6 doctors during that time none of them can find the cause. Time and time again I have said he wasn't like this before the op so something has caused it. All they offer is painkillers which don't help very much at all.

Meanwhile he is still losing weight because of being unable to eat much and is so tired and lethargic. It's such a worry. I'm sorry for the rant but I guess I needed to press the release button this morning.

I finally did my Thursday shop yesterday at 5.30 which is much later than normal. It was going to be Aldi but I thought, blow it, I'm shopping
higher class and went to Sainsbobs instead! It broke my heart paying what they charge for low fat minced beef though! That will be getting turned into Bolognese shortly to pot up for the freezer in portions.

Today is the Friday cleaning day, they do soon roll round. The weather looks lovely out there too. Have a good day all ((((HUGS)))) if you need them and take care xx

    Morning all

Another one here who had a minor panic over the thread title as I'm going to work for a couple of hours today & was worried I should have gone yesterday, lol.

Have a lovely time RR, whatever day it is. TA, rant away whenever you need to, I hope things improve soon. Hugs to Elona, LW I hope you are ok & have furry friends visiting.

Fish fed, hubby has a cuppa & I'm off to work & taking hubby's walking stick with me, not to lean on but to use to pull down the brambles as I'm going blackberrying as well.

Yesterday was a day from hell & I ended up with the headache from hell, the combination of roadworks of the way to, and an accident on the way back meant that a trip to see MIL took 2 hours longer than it should.

Visitors this afternoon include 2 DGD's and a dog, so lots of cuddles all round.

Time I got a wriggle on & want to work.

    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning :hello:

The single most useful thing that could happen right now is for mr tru to leave for a month :D There would be consistency and no rule-breaking and I will have this dog training business sorted in no time.
I've mistimed the treat-giving a couple of times on our walks over the last few days, managed to calm Scampi down quickly though. I apologised to the people walking past and made a joke about working on my awful timing. They just laughed and said not to worry, then 'but he's so much better now isn't he?'. These are people I've never seen before, I'm starting to feel paranoid about being watched and maybe gossiped about :D

I've been popping in over the last few days but not read properly, hope you're all OK x

We're starting to get overrun with tomatoes so I need to start turning them into sauces. My one cucumber is delicious and I'm making it last as long as possible, lol. Maisie Chick is still soldiering on, a bit slower than before but she's laid a couple of eggs so must be feeling OK.

I've got the hang of the new crochet stitches, today I'll get all my baby colours out and play with them til I find a good combination. I'll start the blanket if I have time.

    Morning all,

    Just thought I,d pop in.

I,m off work for 10 days (woo-hoo), so intend to use the time to get 'winter proofed'

I,m off food shopping today, I will buy a load of meat for the freezer, which lasts the month, then off to Aldo for basic and household stuff - why does bathroom and kitchen cleaners and paper always run out at the same time..
We have 2 new fur babies we collected from Cats Protection on Wednesday, they are a mummy and daughter and are 3 yo and 2 yo - poor loves were in there since April - they hid under the sofa for 24 hours, just coming out to eat and use the ensuite litter tray - but are really coming out of their shells now and Mum is turning into a complete lap cat - our boy cats are showing tentative interest, so I hope they will get on. We,re having issues with names, but they will come.

It,s our first wedding anniversary this weekend - I cannot believe this year has gone so quickly, we,re off out for a special meal and will just chill this weekend.

Hope your all okay, I do read regularly but RL gets in the way a lot now.

    Take care x

Good Morning everyone, TRU the dog walking contingent are usually very observant about other peoples dogs and if they are complimenting you on how much Scampi has improved it's because he HAS! they won't be watching your every move or his to be critical but will be aware of how hard you've been trying to help him and how much progress you've made in the upward direction. Most folks will be feeling really pleased for you both at the improvements you've made work. We have friends who got a Labradoodle when we got Docky and Rupert grew into a veritable Donkey, he's HUGE! his muum had never had a dog before and is petite and Rupert is very strong. The first 3 years of his life were a penance for her, he's not in the slightest bit agressive but sheer size and exuberance made him dangerous and likely to flatten youngsters just in passing. They persevered with his training though and one day I met her in the park and Rupert sat when she told him to and calmed right down. She started to appologise and I pointed out just how far they'd both come in 3 years, and how last year she'd never have been able to let him off safely let alone get him to obey commands not on the lead. Sometimes love, you cant see the progress because of your worry at him offending, he's OK and you're the best!!! Lyn xxx.

With regards to getting old, hubby said to me this morning 'Why do you hop around on one leg when you put you knickers on, why don't you just sit down?'
I replied 'Only old people sit down to put their knickers on!'
I'm already drawing my pension, lol.
I always sit down to put my knickers on - I'd be flat on my arris if I didn't!:rotfl:

Me to! I'm already confused today; Mr LW came in to help me bathe wearing jeans and polo shirt, not his usual work garb of shirt and chinos. Then he informed me it's dress-down day, and he'd forgotten to tell me.:rotfl:

Tru I can only echo what Mrs LW said; other dog-walkers will be thrilled with the progress you and Scampi have made. They may well have seen you out before, but you didn't notice them because you were dealing with one of his "episodes" at the time.:o

Ooh - happy anniversary wishes to Islandmaid and Islandman.:D
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
