DWP Provisional job offer - Advice needed !

Hi, im new to this forum and just was just wondering if anyone can help or has been in a similar situation.
I recently went for a job interview with the DWP and have received a letter provisionally offering me the job depending on background checks.
I logged onto the online DWP jobs site to give them the details they are asking and one of the first things they ask is if I have been previously dissmissed from the civil service.
Four years ago I was dissmissed from HMRC and I am planning on being completely honest and telling them but will it definitely be the end of my job offer? As I was dissmissed from one department of civil service and obviously DWP is another part of the civil service.
I'm all stressed out and upset thinking the stupid reason I was dissmissed is going to halt me getting a job I really want and did well in the interview for. So does anyone work for DWP and if so, do you know if it will immediately mean I can kiss goodbye to the job?

May help if you could give reason for dismissal0

It was for using the Internet during work time. (Not inappropriate sites!)0

Unless you were on there all day and every day and assuming the "background checks" are done by a human not a computer, I don't think this would lead to an automatic rejection although the reality is that remains a possibility.
This is only the view I would take on your application, the DWP probably have a policy on it.
Good luck.0 -
I'd tell them, but include any mitigating reasons for your actions, and also how you've taken steps to stop it happening again.0

That seems harsh. Dismissal is almost always for gross misconduct which is arson, assault, theft etc! The Civil Service did dismiss quite a few en masse around that time, but from memory it was for forwarding racist/sexist jokes as a chain email in the Passport Service and DWP.Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0

Dismissal for use of the internet in work time would generally only happen if the usage was truly excessive and usage didn't diminish after warning. I suspect there is more to the story that is being provided here.0

I worked in IT for a company that had this dismissal rule for some staff not all. I was on the internet for half the day on one job and all the manager did was laugh about it after bringing it to my attention. But like you say, there is MUCH more to the story or even if that is the real reason at all.0 -
Hello all do you know what the outcome was did she get the job or was she refused? As i am now in same predicament was sacked for gross misconduct from dwp in 2011 now i have a interview with hmrc was wondering whether to go or not.0

I'd assume that due to it being civil service, they will check as to the reasons why you left previous employment.
I know some people take a chance and leave out any gross misconduct but background checks are not always carried out.
That said I'd assume the DWP would be more thorough than most.0 -
In addition lots of HR related service such as payroll, referencing etc. is undertaken by a private company which covers several if not all of the Civil Service depts so if not declared the chances of it coming out are high."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0
