Stitched picture

is this something a beginner could manage?

i like stitching but i can only do the basic stitches at the moment ...

could i use old clothes for the picture? and what sort of fabric should i use for the background?

    You can do a lot with basic stitches!! Use a near as possible to natural fabric for the background and add beads and anything else you can sew on for added interest.

    £25 for that, good grief, looks like a child has made it. Yes you could do better than that. Find a picture you like, the simpler the better. Copy the shapes onto tracing or greaseproof paper, then transfer them onto fabric with a pencil, trace the lines onto the reverse of the fabric so they wont show on the front. Cotton fabric is best, any offcuts you have can be used. Then cut the shapes out with a small pair of scissors. Arrange them on your chosen background and stitch them down with running stitch, or you could machine them. You might find it easier to stick them on first with iron on vylene then they won't move.

    Try looking for applique videos on youtube.

  • Or you could use a pen that disappears with water on the right side and transfer with s light box.

    I've got quite a lot of old cotton t-shirts saved up, instead of sending them to textile bank, so I'll try with those first :)
