I've read through lots of informative websites and the stickies on here, but it is a lot of information that I don't really understand, so I'm asking here.

I received a Parking Charge Notice from Legion Group as I parked in a car park by work as I was running late, I paid for as many hours as I could afford with my cash, and after work I came out to find I got a ticket. I wasn't even aware that they enforced the parking there, as I have parked there plenty before and never been in trouble.

The paper that was stuck to my car says the charge is £100 but £50 if I pay within 16 days. The 16th day is tomorrow, I have been ignoring it so far as I am aware that there is some questionable legality involved.

Although the paper stresses that I "must" pay the charge, nowhere does it mention there will be legal ramifications if I ignore it.

What legal ground do they have for enforcing it? The car park is on private land so I'm not sure what is the right thing. I don't want to give them £50 (almost 2 days wages!) if they do not legally deserve it.

The answer you will always get when asking that question here is NO!

Read through the early part (for now) of the sticky FAQ thread about when and how to challenge the ticket.

Don't ever admit who was the driver!

Thanks for the response. I don't know why I would want to challenge it though - I'm aware that I was in the wrong, and appealing would be a failure as the charge is not baseless.

You think you are in the wrong and the charge is not baseless.

    Hmmm.

OK then - you have used too many letter Os in your first post and the charge is £100 or £50 if you pay within 2 weeks.

What's the difference between my speculative invoice and the Legion one?

Can I sent you my address so you can send me the money, please?

    No -I thought not.

Please don't pay the exorbitant charge which is nothing more than a scam.

the difference between these is that I didn't enter a contract with this forum regarding keeping my Os down.

I will probably just ignore, but I'm just worried about the 0.01% chance that I get taken to court :/

You might get involved in a court case, but it would be weeks after you got notification of the case before you were "taken" to a hearing.

You can decide at that time whether you want to defend or pay (without attending court)

But read the thread mentioned in #2 - ignoring is not recommended.

And here's the number of times that Legion has dragged terrified motorists to the small clams court in the last 12 months.

    Be afraid, very afraid!

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

exactly, the non-existence on the list proves the non-existence of any court cases by them (but I havent looked at the list)

Yes, you did wrong, but on a scale of 1 to 10 it would rank as a half. They also have done wrong by trying to ask for more than they are entitled to, much more, and their wrongdoing is 10-20 times worse than yours.

Follow the advice here, do the appeals, and cost them money.
