Credit check for car insurance?

Just took out a motor insurance policy, paying all in one go, using a pre-paid card.

They did a credit check.

Is this normal?

Think they do it as part of an identity check?
  • They usually do a quotation check rather than a formal credit check. Imagine its different if you are paying in installments.
  • It's normal for insurance providers to carry out an identity search but I've not had one show up as a credit search; with the exception of a pay monthly policy where the finance was provided by a third party as opposed to the insurance provider.

Are you sure it was an actual credit search?
