I think that if they have told you that the £50 includes extra pages and you are sure there are not extra pages, it is reasonable to query that.
The cost of actually printing the alblm ma well have gone up and I don't think it is unreasonable for them to pass on that charge to you, Particuarly if the delay is down to you.
In your place, I would probably be responding to them and saying
"thank you for your e-mail. I am glad that the album has bow been sent to print but am puzzled by your request for an additional £50.
You have stated that this is due in part to an 'extra page'. We have not requested or approved any extra pages - the album is still 80 prints s originally agreed (or state the number of pages, if that was agreed)
In terms of the timescale while I'm aware that some of the delay was down to us, there were also significant delays on your part, including very slow responses when we raised queries, and at no time have you previously indicated that you would seek to increase the cost agreed.
We are disapppointed that you have left it until after you sent the album to print to inform us of this. Could you clarify with reference to the original agreement the basis on which you are changing the price, and also clarify exactly what this is for, given that we have not requested or approved any additional pages? "
That way, you are flagging up that you are not happy with the change, and giving them the opportunity to clarify it.
I have to say, 5 proofs and a 5 year delay both sound lot to me and it does sound as though they have probably put in more work than would nomally have been expected.
I think that the issue of the person whp took the pictures not being the one yuou expected is water under the bridge now. The time to have raised that (and the style you were looking for) was when he was asking you to pose, or if you did not realise then that he was not also taking candid shots, at the point when you first saw the 800 shots he did take. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
I'm in a very similar situation-I got married 5 years ago and just last week approved my final photos!
Personally, I don't think it is unreasonable for the photographer to come back for some additional costs (within reason) as I suspect album and printing cost has increased over the years.0 -

5 years LOL i'm still astounded that a photographer could still take a customer seriously half a decade later. In fact i'm surprised they still have the photos!!!0

Unbelievable that you both let it go so long! As a retired photographer my contract stipulated when they would get the images and a time limit for album delivery ( 2 years maximum) within which period I kept to my contracted price. Anyone choosing to delay beyond that limit would be subject to surcharges as albums go up every year. I only undertook to guarantee to hold images on my server for 2 years in case people lost / damaged their original supplied files. Of course in practice I kept them (still have them ) longer but you have to set limits or risk being sued. I would say that any judge would rule in favour of the photographer given your admission of being complicit in the delays and £50 for 5 years is reasonable. Is it worth making it go on longer? Why not offer to meet him half way and pay £25 if he agrees as he is also seemingly responsible for the delays but I fear for his business model!0
