Living Abroad - Wanting To Buy In UK Credit Score / Mortgages

Hi all,
Thanks for reading.
I moved to Qatar recently with a view to saving money up for a house back in the UK over 5 years. On checking my credit record it's like I've fallen off the earth. I had some severe debt which has been repaid in full. The debt obviously hit my credit score hard and appreciate it would have taken time to build that back up even if I were in the UK.
I'm saving money here (transferring back to UK account) but think it will be hard for me to build up a credit file which will mean on returning to the UK I am deemed credit worthy.
Any thoughts on what I could do? Or is it a case of let the credit file settle down and speak to a specialist company when I return / plan to return.
TIA

Until you return to the UK you wouldn't be able to start to rebuild your credit history. Expect to rent initially.0
