Vendor has gone quiet - contact them directly?

We've had our searches and survey completed, and have received the formal mortgage offer.
However our vendor has seemed to have disappeared and hasn't been responding to the estate agent chasing them up for a few weeks now.
I found out their names from the land registry title it it seems one of my friends actually knows that couple and has confirmed that the property belong to them. Small world!
Now the man is self employed and has his land line and mobile numbers publicly available online to which our mutual friend has also confirmed that it is his business.
Should I try to phone him personally or would this seen as rude?

What has your solicitor said?
What's the EA chasing them for?
Perhaps they are or have been on holiday.0 -
If the vendors have avoided responding to the EA for a few weeks, I think you are well within your rights to contact them directly, given their contact details are publicly available, to politely ask whether there is a problem.0

Ask your mutual friend to chattily ask them how their house move is coming along!0

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but sounds like they've had a change of heart. We've just had the same thing, a chap offered on our house, offer was accepted, then he went dark for a week and was uncontactable. He's since pulled out.0
