I know of few supplied earphones of any quality - some of the newer Sony MP3 players come with headphones aren't that bad - but as a rule, what is in-the-box is cheap, mass produced for cost efficiency and incapable of delivering audio to any where near the fullest.
In particular, the ones Apple supply in the box aren't high quality or capable of rich bass reproduction. In fact, they barely fit your ears properly, hence the need to turn them up overly loud which leads to lots of sound leakage that people detest on public transport.
I would stay clear of Apple headphones of any kind - there are much better options out there. Sennheiser CX300s (as others will have mentioned in this thread) are the best bang-for-buck earphones widely available at an affordable price. Decent isolation, comfortable, offering a warm sound signature typical of their products.
Totally agree- the ones supplied by Apple are poor quality compared to the CX300s .... I know as I upgraded and could hear the sound difference.
For Xmas, I upgraded again to a set of Shure E2C phones, and they are better still! Play were doing them for £30.
OT as the OP has probably sorted out a pair, but with earphones, I do think that there are MUCH better available out there, it is just a case of finding ones that suit your budget / music preference.:rolleyes:One day I want to be the pigeon...... and not the statue!0 -
My kids have got the in ear Bose ones which are really good. My son and I both have the Bose Soundocks which are really good and when the reveiws were good on the earphones I got them.
My daughter however, is on her second pair, she left hers on the aeroplane going on holiday about three weeks after she got them.
My youngest has just got the new nano for xmas but he can wait until he is a couple of years older before he gets new headphones. At the moment he is not allowed to take his ipod out.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.
Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz0 -

I had Shure E2c IEMs, which were great but sadly after a few years, the amount of use i gave them took their toll on the left ear. I have since upgraded to the Shure SE420s...they cost more than most MP3 players!!!!
Sonic bliss though, but not a product I'd recommend on these boards...:D"Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

I know Apple ar enot the best but they don't supply rubbish either.
The replacement phones I acquired off ebay were nothing like as good as the Apple ones.
Anyway, I just ordered some Sennheiser CX300s from Amazon Marketplace @ £5.99 inc. p+p.
Perhaps I'll be able to hear something now on the plane, instead of the hum of 2 Rolls Royce engines.

May be a bit late, but I have got some Sennheiser in ear headphones which are fabby - they cost more than my Creative Zen Stone! My daughter has some Sennheiser noise cancelling ear phones which we use for plane journeys adn they are pretty good.0
