Home theatre system

Options
Currently I have a 5.1 home theatre system, and i'm wondering if there's anyway I can get 5.1 sound with the TV and xbox and everything and not just DVD. The only other way I know (think) of is buying a amplifier.
Is there no other way around this?

Thanks.

you'll need the amp. Your DVD will only have sound outputs but you need inputs to transfer the sound from the TV.
I wanted to do the same and Richer Sounds told me it wasn't possible so i went for an amp

Give us a clue to what hardware you have and we can find out the inputs and outputs you have to play with.

Which xbox? 360 or the old one? the 360 has a digital optical out on the video out cable so if you just need an optical input on your system to get 5.1 from that.

Your TV not possible, standard TV is only broadcast in stereo or prologic at best, if it has outputs for stereo connect them up to a stero input and you may get prologic 4.0 if the broadcast is in prologic front left and right front center and a single chanel for the rear. The simpsons is prologic and its great fun to watch with the surround turned on doors slamming over here or there. My TV doesnt have stereo out but the digital box does as does recorder so Iconnected those to the surround receiver.

Well, my TV is a Sony Bravia KDLS40A12U.
    It's an original Xbox.
    I also have a Wii
    Standard Sky box.
And I sometimes connect my laptop to the TV through VGA.

Edit: These are the connections my TV has:

it's only got 2 channel speaker outputs and your DVD player won't have inputs i'm presuming.

It's looking like it's amp time..
This is the one i bought when i found myself in the same situation.

I've got everything linked into the Sky box via scart and the tv and sky box connected by scart. I've got an optical cable from the Sky box to the amp for the sound.

i may be asking for a bit much, but isn't there any decent ones out there for 100 quid-ish?

edit: ignore this post, i looked at the wrong price :D

oh and another thing, the sky box only has 2 scarts, so should i not run an optical cable from the tv to the amp for sound?

this is an optical cable so it'd need a little square box to plug it into, they usually have a lump of plastic in them to keep the dust out.
