Which, as teddysmum pointed out, are plastic. Hence, no plastic is saved.
Plastic is of course saved.
Only people who used carrier bags previously as bin liners and now buy bin liners to replace the plastic bags will use the same amount of plastic as before.
Everyone else who already use bin liners (not carrier bags) will use less plastic as they will not use as many carrier bags.
This has been proved to word in Wales and Scotland so I see no reason why the charge will not also be successful in England.0 -

You are trying to start an argument in an empty room.
Both teddysmum and myself were obviously talking about the fact that no plastic is saved by people who used them as bin liners.
You should be well aware of that because I restated it below the part you quoted. In fact, you have just paraphrased what I said below.Only people who used carrier bags previously as bin liners and now buy bin liners to replace the plastic bags will use the same amount of plastic as before.

I don't know why you are telling me this. Which part of:Once charging is introduced the proportion of bags dumped without reuse will drop dramatically.
did you not understand? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

i believe you are the one trying to start an argument
You've misread my post and are now offering nothing of value.
This is a useful thread I don't want it to be locked then deleted because you can't control yourself :rotfl:0 -

As usual, you respond to a detailed explanation of what you got wrong with vague waffling. This is a useful thread I don't want it to be locked then deleted because you can't control yourself :rotfl:
You should be aware that that will not happen. They will simply delete any posts that they find disruptive. But if you are that bothered, the answer lies in your own hands. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
The strangest experience is going clothes shopping. Once it was a pretty glam affair, walking around with all your different bags from different shops, advertising to the world where you shopped. Now you have to take your own bags its really not the same
We have a variety of bags in the house for use, from the m&s cloth ones that fit in a handbag or pocket, to big asda bags for life and a few hessian printed ones which have been gifted
If I forget a bag then I just find a box or put the shopping in the car loose. Ive even been known to stuff my handbag and pockets as I refuse to pay 5p
I noticed this in the Lakeland book, seems to be an ideal solution to the weekly shop

But those bags are five pounds each, not 5p. :eek:0 -
I shouted at my chauffeur (james) this morning , as he forgot to take some reusable bags with when he collected the champers and snacks this morning.
bad show , it cost me 35p
that will be deducted from his salary0 -
Big sign on the subject outside Waitrose this morning. I've got some really nice very heavy plastic bags from a French supermarket which I've been using for years. They seem to be some sort of heavy duty woven plastic stuff which is pretty much indestructible and wipes clean when needed.0

Buy shares in whoever manufactures bin liners. All our free plastic bags get used that way. We'll now have to buy just about as much plastic baggery in the form of bin liners.
Anybody who believes charging for plastics bags will make one jot of difference to the planet's climate is bonkers.
Deckchairs, Titanic and all that.0 -

And will last a long long time
For me its not the 5p charge that's a problem, if the shops were charging that here then Id be ok with it. But its not, its a tax, going straight to the government
When the levy first came in it was for single use carriers only. Its now been extended to all bags that have a retail value of less then 20p . One can only presume that this has been extended as less and less single use bags are being bought as more and more people are reusing bags and the Govt arent reaping in as much as they thought
Just call me a cynic
