This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning Hester and all to follow,
Day off today
going for my waxing, haircut pedicure and manicure ! I don't often treat myself so will have a real pamper day today, (dreading the haircut though !) thanks for all the good holiday wishes, we leave here very early tomorrow morning so will have to try and get a few hours sleep after dinner tonight.
Dinner will be something and chips will go and look in the freezer after this, I also need to sort the fridge out and take any fresh stuff up to mums. Will have a quick tidy round too before we go.
TA I do hope MR TA is more comfortable today and that you hear something soon xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
We're off to visit MIL today & I need to get my online banking sorted out, I'd like to access it on my phone but can't work out how, I'm obviously a bit of a Luddite where phones are concerned!
It's damp & grey here gain today, it was the same yesterday but brightened up later.
I'm working tomorrow for a couple of hours & feeding a colleagues cats for a few days until Saturday & have one of the DGD's staying on Sunday.
Then Tuesday hubby & are are both back to work properly & I have to train all the staff on the new machines, that will be interesting!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
Hugs to you and your family topsy.
Furrybeast - sounds like a plan!
Yesterdays rain was biblical at times, some sunshine in the afternoon and then heavy rain again. Think it's going to be the same today so the washing will go on the airer.
Dw emptied and kitchen tidy for a change. I have a new bathroom, just need the painter to come a week on Monday. Really pleased with it, the builders ripped out the upstairs bathroom yesterday so have to have a bath for a while.
Not much happening, really busy at work and am exhausted at night! Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Rainy and grey today, and yesterday was very nearly lovely. I had a busy day with mum and her medical needs. At least I'm a bit happier about her illness, she's got new antibiotics and has seen the consultant for her other problems. I think most are age related though.
Came home to find two new back windows upstairs :j not finished yet but they are in. The two downstairs ones will be put in today and then on Friday they'll be doing the finishing bits and pieces. For the first time in ages the windows didn't have condensation on them in the mornings - everything is now double glazed. :T
Today I'll be doing a bit of shopping, a bit if 'studying' and a lot of avoiding the workmen. I've got my Access database test tomorrow which I've been avoiding for ages, now it must be done!
OH is off to a school reunion and then the steam fair for a week. He'll be happy.
Breakfast will be porridge and for later there's teriyaki beef strips and noodles. No washing will get done until the windows are finished / or I can get it hung up.
RR - hope your pamper day is fun and you get off on your hols fine.
I hope everyone has a good day. TA you and your OH are at the front of my thoughts.0 -
Morning all,
just catching up with your news before my Grandson arrives. Its fair to say there will be some reading, playing with cars and watching Cbeebies going on today.
Waiting to hear from my eldest daughter who is stuck at Dubai waiting for her flight to the UK. No doubt i'll be on my phone a lot throughout the day too.
redruby enjoy your pamper session and i hope your MIL is comfortable at the very least Hester.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It was absolutely pouring down when I got up this morning but it's already brightened up a bit. Hopefully it will stay dry today. I have to make a doctors appointment for DD15 as she has this weird rash thing spreading over her neck and chest. She is already very self conscious and this doesn't help.
I'm making burritos for tea today with guacamole, sour cream and salsa on the side. It will be a new dish for us today, I had it at wetherspoons last week and it was delicious so I thought I would recreate it at home. I also want to make a chicken and leek soup and a chicken and chorizo stew for the freezer.
My eldest DD came round with the grandchildren yesterday and while she was here she had a phonecall to tell her her interview was successful and she now has a new job at an autism centre. Her partner works there as well so they will be on opposite shifts so childcare will be mostly sorted. I'm so pleased and proud of her. I will help out as much as possible as there may be some overlap because of handovers etc.
I've started to make a list of all the things in the house that niggle at me so I can work through it and cross them off (I love a list). Just sat at my desk I could see twenty things that annoy me so it may be a bit of a monster list when it is finished but I should have a lovely tidy and decluttered house at the end. I hope my hubby and the girls will help too once they see me starting.
Well, I have to ring the surgery now so I will love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning all,
Overcast here but I have put the washing out and see what happens.
Went to see the nurse yesterday for an asthma and BP check, everything fine also yearly medication review. She gave me the usual blood form, which I knew she would, but that can wait until after our days away.
We are off to have coffee with some dear friends of ours and then Himself is hoping the weather brightens up because he wants to cut the front hedge.
Dumpling you sound so determined, I am so pleased for you, onwards and upwards for you.
TA I hope Mr. TA had a better night, but if not I hope you can phone for some information regarding his next lot of treatment. I am sure the waiting is not helping him settle.
GERS, pleased you managed to get Mum sorted, the trouble with being older (not old:)) that most of our problems are ongoing anyway. I can remember DD2 saying when we were visiting a very old building, and I was being very careful on some uneven steps "Oh dear I have old parents" and I wanted to say "your day will come"
Have a good day all

Morning (((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) if you need one.
Bright morning, quilting group, so taking it easy just now, we had a load of logs delivered last night, some of them are rather wet so they need stacking. OH is just about to start. Once Mark has set the grate for us we will be all set. We need to light a small fire to check the chimney is ok before we start serious burning.
Chap came last night about the turf for the garden, £45 supply and lay, he is going to do it at the end of September, give it time to bed in before winter.0 -
Good Morning everyone, a slightly better day here today in as much as it's just grey and breezy but not wet. Smashing film last might and we went on to supper at Waggamammas which is what Sister in Law fancied and had a very nice meal too! I'm heading in to town on the bus this morning for some groceries, as usual He Who Knows is picking on the allotment as the raspberries will have taken a real battering from the heavy rain yesterday and we'll lose them if we leave them on the bushes. They won't be freezeable so we'll eat them, what a hardship!
I've been and inventoried my homemade preserves this morning and the only other thing I'll be making this year is Wartime Apple Chutney, we've enough jam to float the Titanic and nearly as much chutney too, certainly enough to see us through until next year (at the very least).
Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
