    Indeed. The first thing you have to do is find out what it is that the insurance company think you've declared incorrectly. Without knowing that it's impossible to even speculate on whether £1500 is a reasonable mark up on the premium. If they think you've failed to declare a drink drive conviction, for example, insuring you for an extra £1500 would be pretty generous.

    What to do next depends on whether or not you actually did give them wrong information.

    The normal situation when an Insurer discovers a miss match in the information declared and the correct information and / or undisclosed information. Is they write to the customer asking for an explanation to see whether there was a good reason rather than the customer deliberately miss leading them.

    Once furnished with this information they work out any extra premium owing etc.

    If this is the case the OP will know the difference in information.
