It's mainly for daughter's school work, browsing and light office work.
Any advice gratefully received, thank you.

For £310, yes it probably is for the planned us. It's last years model, which is why most online retailers are out of stock now. Your first task will be the free upgrade to Windows 10.
Reviews on Amazon are mostly good - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-E5-571-15-6-inch-Notebook/dp/B00LBY4SKW0

            It's really nothing special.0

Not looking for something special, just for something half decent that works reasonably fast0

If you are looking for an humble laptop, this is great
Only check if there is Office pre-installed!0

Office won't be preinstalled. Could use Office Starter 2010 (Word, Excel) for free (works with W10) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN1116j96W40

Thanks for that, much appreciated. Hopefully it's easy enough to do for someone like me.
Would you recommend buying McAffee? As you can tell I'm not tech savvy at all0

It's a little fidly but follow the instructions and it should be ok. If you don't have to have Windows Office there are various freebie non-MS alternatives. e.g. LibreOfficesophiejames wrote: »Thanks for that, much appreciated. Hopefully it's easy enough to do for someone like me.
Not worth buying for school work in my opinion. I'd suggest Avast FREE Edition. Again a bit fidly but register it and put it in "games/silent" mode and it won't bother you for 1 year.sophiejames wrote: »Would you recommend buying McAffee?0

I'd go with Avast too. It's been able to remove things other anti-viruses left behind.

It's probably worth installing the free version of MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware too. The free version only does manual scans, so won't stop you getting infected in the first. But it's one of the best malware-removers around, so it's worth installing just in case you need it later on!

Do your own research, but after upgrading to Windows 10 you'll have the included WIndows Defender, Malicious Software Removal Tool and SmartScreen for dodgy web-sites; these may be good enough for you.
Also, I'd suggest Office 365 on subscription, included is unlimited online storage for your files with OneDrive0

Three year Guarantee included instead of one.
In fact Argos wants £94.99 for a 2 Year Breakdown Plan.
 8GB instead of 4GB RAM
 Corei5 runs at 2.2GHz, 2.7GHz Turbo, instead of 1.7GHz.
 £349.95 instead of £309.99
Lots of three year Guarantee laptops from John Lewis.0
